Senior Engineer-Processing & Tool Design

This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business. **The Role** The entry level process engineer; able to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Supports the development of manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative is exercised. **LEVEL EXPECTATIONS:** Entry level professional executing work requiring independent decision-making and judgment with appropriate supervision over outcomes. **EXPERTISE** - Requires good theoretical knowledge in specialization and an entry-level understanding of practices and procedures, usually acquired through an undergraduate degree, professional certification, or comparable work experience with some additional limited experience. - Critical analysis skills developed through professional study or comparable experience sufficient to identify, describe, and make recommendations relative to business challenges impacting their area on a day-to-day basis. Applies a body of professional / theoretical knowledge and problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve issues. - Works under direct guidance and task-oriented supervision. Employees typically follow a defined process but are required to plan and organize their own work. **COMPLEXITY** - Independently seeks opportunities to learn the processes within own area, and the tools / approaches that can be applied to these challenges. - Exercises decision-making skills sufficient to propose solutions to leadership and a plan for utilizing established procedures to create new solutions. - Develops stable working relationships internally exchanging standard/basic information with colleagues and immediate supervisor, project leaders and other professionals in the team. Contributes to discussions relevant to the direction and priorities of own area. - Communicates information about relevant facts, practices, and policies pertaining to their own job area, effectively exchanging information with colleagues and team leaders in a concise, clear, and professional manner. SCOPE AND IMPACT - Develop an understanding of established procedures / approaches sufficient to exercise independent judgment and professional decision-making regarding the appropriate course of action. Work undergoes periodic review in accordance with established procedures or precedent. - Follows through on difficult situations and exercises independent decision-making regarding a course of action by following established procedures. - Employees' professional impact is typically within their immediate work area. **What You’ll Do** + Execute Tool design done as per MPMs or suggested datum strategy, Input checking for the data received from GMNA. + Responsible to execute & coordinate for tool design & weld template for Pre-production operation-PTB builds, Tool Design for Innovation / Optimization projects of manufacturing operations. + Perform Tool design Internal/ Stake holder review with approval & Detailing for the approved tool with all deliverables. + Revise the Tool design as per change log. + Responsible for Supplier/Stake holders’ coordination & issue resolution in Tooling activities. + Delivery of the design kits to stake holders in Teamcenter. + Communicate with customer for reviews and Query resolution. + Weld template creation for new tools from MPMs & revision as per change log. + Sound knowledge of GD&T, understanding of Clamping and Locating concept (CDLS). + Project kickoff and wrap up documents. Drive project productivity improvement activity. + Perform & Drive RCA process for any issues reported from customer. + Coordinates activities between Simulation, layout, Robotics, Vision systems, Controls, manufacturing plant & suppliers to ensure that designs meet requirements. + knowledge of sensors and electrical devises used in tooling, Pneumatic actuators and controls, Material handling methods in body shop (Grippers, Conveyors), Robot payload design calculation. + Understanding PLC signal exchange between tooling and PLC. + Basic knowledge of robotic cell simulation & basic body shop, paint & General assembly layout components. + Lead in Waste elimination and implementation of continues improvement Ideas & Adhere to GMS requirements. + NX Open programming + Gen AI and API development can give you a competitive advantage **Additional Job Description** **Your Skills & Abilities** + Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/production/Automobile/Industrial Engineering + Minimum 6-10 years of experience working in automotive industry / equivalent field + Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, tool designs and materials handling systems. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, SharePoint, etc. + Sound communications (writing and verbal skills) + Sound Knowledge in Siemens NX -Modelling/Drafting Knowledge along with GM Toolkit + Knowledge of TcAE **What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)** + Ability to develop, inspire and motivate team + Fosters collaboration and teamwork + Willingness to provide strategic perspective + Champion of change + Evidence strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust + Demonstrate initiative • Problem-solving **About GM** Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all. **Why Join Us** We believe we all must make a choice every day – individually and collectively – to drive meaningful change through our words, our deeds and our culture.
