Senior Engineer - Highways

The role involves managing multiple projects and contributing to early-stage design, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality work aligned with Swedish Engineering standards. The candidate will work closely with teams in Sweden and colleagues in Noida/Bangalore. Leadership, technical excellence, and client-focused delivery are key expectations. Training and support will be provided as needed.
+ Lead a team of engineers and technicians.
+ Define assignment scope and estimate man-hours in coordination with the lead Project Manager/ Design lead.
+ Develop internal work programs, deliverables lists, and review checklists.
+ Produce design solutions from outline briefs and validate with both internal and client-side PMs/Design Leads.
+ Communicate design progress effectively with internal and lead teams.
+ Review and verify design models, calculations and detailed drawings.
+ Ensure project delivery meets quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints.
+ Provide technical leadership and mentor team members to enhance their capabilities.
+ Contribute to the development of technical skills and provide ongoing guidance to the team.
+ Support technical promotion and contribute to writing technical report sections.
+ Maintain up-to-date technical competencies for self and team.
+ Collaborate with SE SUT business units in Sweden.
+ Adhere to WSP’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards and Business Management System (BMS).
+ Graduate degree in Civil Engineering from a reputed institute.
+ 6 to 10 years of experience, with at least 6 years in highways design role.
+ Proven experience in leading teams of engineers and technicians.
+ Proficient in highways engineering software and Microsoft Office.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
+ Commercial experience in managing highways and roads project assignments.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, seniors, team members, and clients.
+ Solid understanding of technical deliverables for major highway, road, and street projects at both feasibility and detailed design stages.
+ Proficient in international roadway geometric design standards, with a strong background in planning, designing, and reviewing layouts for roads, streets, and other public spaces facilities.
+ Experience in a technical leadership role for major roads, streets, NMU (non-motorized user) infrastructure, and community development projects based on international codes and practices.
+ Ability to understand, explain, present, and resolve complex technical problems for both technical and non-technical audiences.
+ In-depth knowledge of road and highway design manuals such as AASHTO, DMRB, TSRGD; familiarity with Trafikverkets VGU, Swedish TRAST, and Nordics countries public space design standards is preferred.
+ Strong problem-solving skills, originality, cultural awareness, and an open-minded, conscientious approach.
+ Highly self-motivated with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
+ Capable of working under pressure with minimal supervision.
+ Expert-level knowledge of Civil 3D, including Naviate and its SAC components.
+ Working knowledge of Novapoint, Navisworks, ProjectWise, and BIM collaboration tools is preferred.
Qualifications
+ Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
+ Minimum of 6 years’ experience in infrastructure projects, with a focus on detailed design of highways and roads.
+ Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D.
+ Experience working in multicultural environments or with international teams.
