Senior Embedded Developer

What you'll do:

As a Senior Manager, Embedded Engineering, your key area of responsibility will be leading a team of Embedded Developers in building cutting-edge software applications and platforms for our automotive IoT products. This includes overseeing BSP development, embedded applications, and the implementation of robust test automation setups and quality processes to ensure the delivery of world-class quality embedded products. You'll also be responsible for developing a comprehensive test strategy, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) platforms, as well as CI/CD pipelines for all Geotab telematics and expandability embedded products.

How you'll make an impact:

Lead multiple teams in the development of embedded software for automotive IoT products, leveraging various RTOS and Linux operating systems.

Define and drive strategy for automotive IoT products.

Lead team(s) of skilled professionals to develop and implement comprehensive applications, platforms, and automation strategies, including connectivity, vehicle communication (CAN), IMU, and GNSS.

Lead and contribute to technology visions as outlined by senior leadership.

Manage, measure, and implement an Agile development process across all teams within the group.

Ensure automation frameworks and tools are current and effective in reducing testing cycles by facilitating effective integration and system-level requirements.

Oversee and optimize CI/CD pipelines to ensure daily integration and prevent regression.

Ensure the quality of Embedded Engineering processes and drive continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations for embedded systems, such as safety and security standards.

Develop and execute tasks and assignments with direction from the AVP/VP to support broader initiatives.

Support Geotab's global strategic initiatives.

Set the overall direction for employees, ensuring alignment with departmental policies and objectives.

Provide input to the AVP/VP on sub-department/team strategy.

Oversee overall group staffing needs, collaborating with the AVP/VP on resource planning and providing forecasting for anticipated new hires.

Support the AVP with local site leadership, engagement, and culture initiatives.

Manage employees and processes within your teams with an operational and tactical focus.

Make independent decisions related to resources, approach, and tactical operations for projects and initiatives involving your team.

Own the execution of assigned talent management initiatives, including performance management, coaching, and making hiring decisions.

Complete performance reviews and make recommendations for employee movement, promotion, or separation.

Analyze moderately complex issues, evaluating various factors including current business trends.

Apply advanced knowledge of the field to effectively manage team deliverables.

What you'll bring to the role:

10+ years experience in embedded software test automation, including HIL and SIL.

5-8+ years experience managing and developing teams.

Proven expertise in delivering high-scale IoT embedded products.

Expertise in managing multi-team delivery of embedded software using C, C++, and Rust.

Extensive experience with products in the automotive IoT space at scale.

Proficiency in test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Gitlab, Github, Jenkins, dSPACE, Vector tools).

Demonstrated success in coaching and developing employees.

Strong experience with Agile methodologies of project management is essential.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills.

Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to fast-changing priorities and deadlines.

Technical competence using software programs, including Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).

Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to embedded systems.

Post-secondary degree/diploma specialization in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
