We have a new exciting and career defining opportunity for a Senior Research Engineer – Electrical Power Engineer – to join our growing Electrical Power Network team. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the green revolution in aviation, a project that aligns with our company mission, “To be the Most Trusted and Sustainable Partner in the Sky”.
Reporting to the Electrical Network Technical Authority, you will support the Electrical Power Network team in delivering an Electrical Power network to enable the development of sustainable aerospace power and propulsion systems.
The electrical power network includes the power conditioning from the fuel cells and power conditioning from the electrical energy storage system to support the delivery of the right power quality. The electrical power network also includes the electrical protection and re-configuration features to manage failure cases which the role will be expected to support on.
This role will be based at our Bristol GTC, however travel will be expected including occasional international.
How You'll ContributeThe role will be responsible for designing the electrical power network distribution assemblies to support demonstration of the fuel cells, power conditioning and electrical propulsion for a flying demonstrator.
The Senior Research Engineer will be responsible for the following:-
Lead the electrical design and sizing of the Electrical Busbar Delivery of design of Electrical Network Distribution Assemblies Prepare technical documentation, including electrical schematics and design reports Deliver electrical switchboard design (including busbar, fault protection, ground, sensors etc.) Setting separation and segregation limits within PDC Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure design requirements are met Support of electrical power network technology roadmaps Support of future power and propulsion system studies Work collaboratively with GKN Fokker-Elmo in the Netherlands Validate the Power Distribution Centres at a test site in the UK Internal & external technical relationships with Customers and suppliers What You'll BringTo help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential
Minimum B.Eng degree qualified with ≥ 3 years relevant experience Experience in designing electrical distribution assembly equipment Experience in designing and modelling dc electrical power systems Background of developing electrical distribution equipment design solutions Experience in installation of electrical switching/ fault protection/ fault limiting devices Good understanding of electrical distribution equipment manufacturing methods Good understanding of impacts of higher voltage solutions in aerospace Good understanding of electrical distribution equipment manufacturing methodsDesirable
Aerospace Industry experience else experience in a safety based industry Experience in creating/ overseeing electrical diagrams and technical specifications Experience in electrical switchboard design High Power, High Voltage design experience Experience of performing FMEAs Experience in Ground Protection Wider experience of control of electric Power Systems, preferably hybrid energy source systems Must be capable of working with and specifying work for academic and industrial partners to obtain hardware deliveryPersonal Attributes
