The OpportunityBlack & Veatch is seeking a Senior EHV (345kV +) Engineering Specialist with 8-10 years’ experience to join our Electrical team. The ideal candidate has significant working experience and knowledge of EHV Power Systems including upfront planning, design, testing, and commissioning of EHV substations and transmission lines.

Phoenix, AZ Dallas, TX Houston, TX Overland Park, KS (Kansas City) Ann Arbor, MI Cary, NC (Raleigh) Preferred Qualifications 8-10 years of experience performing EHV engineering planning and design for substations and transmission lines: Upfront planning / options Physical design Protection & control design Relaying design Design calculations Experience performing EHV engineering calculations such as: Audible noise / corona Electric fields Lightning Insulation coordination Stead-state electric field induced current Fence grounding capacitor energy Induced voltage Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) Transient (switching) Overvoltage (TOV) Temporary Overvoltage (TOV) Electric / Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Grounding Active Professional Engineer (PE) License in State of Residence or Project Needs. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years' related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. Key Responsibilities Function as a technical specialist encompassing EHV transmission level voltage classes. Make EHV engineering calculation recommendations to influence risk mitigation through project execution plans. Communicate EHV engineering calculation capabilities to internal and external clients to support project capture and development. Under general direction, applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to develop, maintain, and update EHV engineering standards. Provides technical leadership and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and standards. Independently applies knowledge and follows Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks. Consistently reviews and verifies the accuracy of both personal work and that of team members. Actively promotes and upholds Black & Veatch’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) standards, serving as a champion for continuous improvement and excellence. Effectively communicate client goals and priorities to project teams, developing strategies to integrate these drivers into complex project execution. Engage directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure alignment and successful project delivery. Demonstrate strong leadership by mentoring team members and offering technical direction across disciplines. Actively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to manage and deliver complex, multidisciplinary projects. Experience supporting proposal development including, scope of work, level of work, engineering estimates, and schedules. Manage or contribute to multiple high-impact projects simultaneously. Develop clear, concise written communications and facilitate effective collaboration with team members and clients. Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Demonstrate strong teamwork and the ability to lead project efforts, including schedule, budget, and resource management. Familiarity with NERC reliability regions such us PJM, ERCOT, MISO.
