Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
NBC News is seeking a Senior Editor for its Business Unit to help craft stories about business, the economy and their impact on consumers. This experienced journalist will ensure the unit’s correspondents, producers and reporters serve all of NBC News’ platforms, including digital, broadcast and streaming. The person in this role should be organized and nimble, able to think about big-picture and enterprise coverage, while also leading and contributing during breaking news situations.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with major consumer companies, from McDonald’s to Walmart to Apple, and comfortable interpreting major economic reports about the labor market, inflation and other important indicators. The Senior Editor will also have strong interest in the impact of politics and policy on business and the economy.
There is also room for this person to be a player-coach: Someone who can report and write in addition to editing news and feature articles.
Working in partnership with the unit’s Senior Producer, the person in this role will collaborate across NBC News’ platforms, including with various shows and NBC News Digital. This position will report to the Managing Editor of the NBC News Business Unit. It is based at 30 Rock in New York.
Responsibilities:
+ Assigning, editing and publishing breaking news and enterprise stories about business and the economy.
+ Helping to set the editorial/reporting agenda for the Business Unit through regular check-ins with the team’s Senior Producer, producers, correspondents and reporters, as well as other stakeholders.
+ Focusing on the major stories of the moment – and what’s next – while finding creative, distinct ways to inform a general audience.
+ Crafting editorial notes and planning memos for distribution across the organization.
+ Managing and supervising reporters and interns.
+ Working as a player-coach, who can pitch, report and write.
+ At least 8 years experience as a journalist at major outlets
+ Bachelor’s degree in journalism or relevant course of study, or equivalent experience
+ Demonstrated ability to edit copy for structure, clarity and sense
+ Impeccable journalistic standards and ethics
+ Demonstrated ability to write and report
