Job Summary:

The Senior Director, Technical Accounting will play a critical role in guiding Acrisure’s accounting policies, ensuring compliance with evolving standards, and providing technical expertise on complex accounting matters. This individual will be the go-to subject matter expert for US GAAP, with significant exposure to IFRS and UK GAAP, supporting global expansion and acquisitions as Acrisure continues its ambitious growth trajectory.

Responsibilities:

Technical Accounting Leadership: Serve as the primary resource for technical accounting guidance, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and UK GAAP across all Acrisure entities. Continuously monitor changes in accounting standards and communicate their implications to executive leadership and relevant teams.Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and best practices for the organization. Lead the implementation of new accounting standards, providing project management, training, and documentation as needed.Complex Transaction Support: Advise on the accounting treatment of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, and other significant transactions. Prepare and review technical accounting memos addressing complex issues such as revenue recognition, business combinations, consolidations, impairments, and financial instruments.Financial Reporting: Support the preparation and review of financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards. Coordinate with the Corporate Controller and SEC reporting teams to support timely and accurate filings.Internal Collaboration: Work closely with FP&A, tax, treasury, legal, and operational leaders to support business objectives and provide accounting guidance on new initiatives and contracts. Lead cross-functional teams in addressing technical accounting challenges.External Auditor Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters. Prepare supporting schedules, provide documentation, and facilitate effective communications to ensure efficient audits.Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs to keep finance and accounting teams up-to-date on changes in US GAAP, IFRS, and UK GAAP. Foster a culture of continuous learning and compliance.Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency, quality, and scalability of technical accounting functions.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Certification: Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.Experience: Minimum of 12 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant exposure to technical accounting and policy development.Public Accounting Background: Experience with a national public accounting firm strongly preferred.Prior experience in leadership roles, managing and mentoring staff.Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of US GAAP is required; demonstrated experience applying IFRS and UK GAAP in practice is highly desirable.Industry Experience: Prior exposure to insurance, financial services, or fintech sectors is a plus, but not required.Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting concepts for non-accounting stakeholders.Analytical Skills: Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.Technology: Proficiency with accounting and financial reporting systems; strong Excel skills required. Experience with ERP solutions is a plus.Location: This position is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan or Chicago, Illinois. Candidates must be able to work onsite on a hybrid schedule.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an MBA.Experience with multi-national organizations and cross-border transactions.Exposure to SEC reporting requirements and public company environments.Experience with accounting for complex financial instruments and insurance contracts.

Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
