As Senior Director of Research Operations for the areas of Heart, Vascular and Thoracic prospective research, you will work under the leadership of an Executive Director of Research Operations. Serving as the lead for research administration of this area, you will manage diverse groups of research personnel supporting physician clinical researchers and will work closely with department and program leaders to advance the goals of the research across Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Manage the large prospective research portfolio of the Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute, in a matrixed environment. This role acts as the liaison between researchers and research leaders and oversees all administrative aspects of research activities. Sets priorities to assure that research is conducted efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines and throughput in meeting service level expectations.Works closely with research leaders to ensure service level expectations are managed and supported to align with research priorities. Provides key information and updates to inform research operation reviews. In a matrixed environment, creates and directs strategy and growth, implementation, research and shared services productivity, financial performance, compliance and risk mitigation, and continuous improvement for their research area. Leads and manages people in a complex environment, setting meaningful goals and ensuring accountability in achievement. Selects top talent and builds leadership succession through development and coaching. Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for research team members. Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within research operations.Setting priorities for their area, leads delivery of services, programs and projects, develops and implements policies, procedures, standards and strategic plans for assigned research areas. Manages and allocates resources to align with business objectives for research area.Plans and manages the financial operations for the assigned research areas, including budget development, expense and revenue analysis, evaluation of research support and shared services and development activities. Provides reporting to Research leadership as required.In partnership with Executive Director Research Operations develops short and long-term research strategy. Manages team to ensure execution of the growth plan and programmatic development.Drives research integrity by partnering with researchers to ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and ethical standards governing research activities.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s degree in in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field, and 10 years of professional and functionally relevant experience with 6 years of demonstrated leadership and management experienceOR Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field and 8 years of professional and functionally relevant experience with 4 years of demonstrated leadership and management experienceDemonstrated experience leading a research department or similar organization in academic healthcare, university or college setting (e.g., research or academic operations, multiple levels of management, budgetary responsibility and achievement of department goals by providing strategic direction)Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field Extensive knowledge of industry-sponsored clinical trials and regulatory compliance.Strong command of clinical trial operations, protocols, and best practices.Ability to oversee managers of multi-site studies and complex research initiatives.Expertise in securing and managing contracts and grants.Understanding of FDA requirements, approvals, and reporting processes; knowledge of reporting, tracking, budgeting, billing and compliance around Investigational Devices (IDE) and Investigational Drugs (IND).Strong Leadership & Management experienceOur caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
