Senior Director - Brakes & Couplers, North America (H/F)

Who will you be working with?

The incumbent is a member of the senior management team in both, Transit North America and the Brakes & Couplers business. The position reports to the President Transit B&C.

How will you make a difference? (Role Purpose)


The role’s purpose is to maximize revenue generation and contribution to the Brakes & Couplers (B&C) operating profit and increase the value add. The role will maintain control of Brake and Couplers P&L, driving performance through engineering delivery and implementing the necessary business project, leading all key functions (quality, sourcing and project management) and partnering with engineering to ensure financial performance and customer satisfaction are met with on time, reliable equipment and services.

What will your typical day look like?


•    Plan and monitor work schedules and cash flows, contract & operational margin and overall financial performance
•    Align B&C activities - projects - business with company goals and objectives, provide expert guidance and support, approve newly developed policies.
•    Build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Work as “One Wabtec” coordinating activities will all departments especially Operations and Services
•    Develop customer centricity for the Brakes and Coupler product lines
•    Establish strategies and goals that support Transit North America and the Brakes & Couplers business objectives.
•    Provide guidance to WPT project management, engineering, sourcing and quality teams and senior management and actively contribute to their growth
•    Develop budgets and financial plans in line with deliverables. Develop and implement ways to improve cost-efficiency.
•    Responsible for effectively coordinating the division’s functions (engineering, quality, sourcing, project management) to ensure best practices are followed, costs are controlled.

Principle Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Safety
•    Promote the Safety of the Railway to ensure that our products and services are designed and engineered to the relevant safety standards
•    Promote staff compliance with current safety practices to reduce injuries through reporting near misses e.g. BO’s, Near Miss reporting
•    Ensure Safe systems of work are considered and included in all tenders and contract negotiations
•    Participate in Safety Audits and Investigations as required

Quality
•    Ensure compliance with all relevant international business and ethics standards
•    Support all tenders and bids to the required quality achieve corporate approval and meet client requirements to secure orders
•    Manage adherence to the governance to monitor contract delivery
•    Manage deliveries in line with Group Standard and relevance consent

Delivery
•    Develop and deploy successful strategies and systems to improve the Brakes and Coupler business in North America including OE
•    Manage resource effectively to maximize output and reduce waste
•    Working closely with sales to develop and deploy winning strategies, capture plans and bids to secure work
•    Working within the matrix and wider business, develop the STRAP and Forecast to support the Product Line Brakes & Couplers growth in NA / delivery of financial results
•    Create a one way of working for Brakes and Couplers NA
•    Manage links with Transit and Wabtec North America

Cost
•    Control the Brakes and Couplers financial P&L, budget, forecast and STRAP
•    Manage departmental cost to agreed yearly budget
•    Manage costs to agreed CTC’s (cost to complete) through robust controls
•    Support the production of quantitative Tender and Project Risk Registers and actively manage the mitigation of risk across the operations portfolio.  Deploy mitigations to prevent margin erosion
•    Leadership of the Contract Margin Improvement Program for Brakes and Coupler NA
•    Lead and present Monthly Reports and report to the business Exec Team and wider business as necessary
•    Understand Operational requirements and delivery

People
•    Capable of operating at Executive level representing the business both internally and externally
•    Railway Industry experience including up-to-date knowledge of the industry
•    Communicates and shares knowledge effectively with all functions
•    Builds a winning team mentality focused on ensuring the success of the Department in promoting the business, securing work and controlling delivery
•    Develop the competence, and skills of the staff within the B&C departments business with the deployment of training, skills and tools
•    Generate succession and contingency plans to support continuity of the department
•    Develops and fosters good team working

Advanced degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related fieldMinimum 10+ years of experience in railway industry leadershipProven track record of P&L management and financial performanceStrong understanding of engineering project managementExperience with contract negotiations and risk managementDemonstrated ability to lead matrix organizationsIndustry certifications in project management or engineering leadership preferredPhysical DemandsAbility to work in office and manufacturing environmentsOccasional travel required (up to 25%)Comfortable with extended periods of computer workCapable of attending meetings, presentations, and site visits

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$161,300.00-$229,800.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
