Job Description
Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As Senior Director, U.S. Market Access Strategy, HIV, you will be reporting to Executive Director US MAS Virology and are responsible for three main areas:
Lead the development and evolution of HIV Treatment, Prevention and Franchise Value and Access Strategies, shaping all aspects access, coverage and product profitability. This role is responsible for providing strategic direction for both in-line products (i.e. established products and launch products) and for Gilead’s extensive HIV Pipeline portfolio.
Drive strategic decision-making with an enterprise perspective and guide alignment with cross-functional leaders which ensure the coverage and access to GILEAD HIV treatment and prevention portfolio is optimized. Provide direct guidance and support to ensure key launches, including lenacapavir for prevention, achieve success as measured by KPIs, and field leadership feedback.
Lead, develop and mentor a team of high-performing access professionals building on Gilead’s core values and develop a culture of open and transparent communication and best practice sharing.
Responsibilities include:
Partner across the organization to lead and develop access Strategies for both inline and launch medicines - the ability to understand the complexity of the managed care industry and capable of guiding a cross-functional team that designs/recommends optimal access/pricing approaches.
Be a subject matter expert on U.S. access environment and key trends, identify how the market access landscape is evolving within a particular TA (Therapeutic Area) e.g., HIV, in order to develop/recommend innovative access solutions across all segments (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.).
Provide the "voice of the payer" to Commercial and cross-functional Team Leadership, and ensure organizational alignment around factors affecting coverage, provider reimbursement, policy, and patient access while tracking Payer coverage decisions and trends impacting Gilead’s TAs.
Monitor current and ongoing key projects and identify future areas of opportunity to enhance the company's U.S. Payer capabilities and create affordable patient access to our innovative products to meet competition and respond to changing and challenging marketplace dynamics.
Integrate US market access and payer perspectives and needs into Global product clinical development plans of Pipeline medicines, collaborating with Global Value & Access (GV&A) and Global Commercial Product Strategy teams where applicable.
Collaborate closely with the strategic contracting and analytics functions to ensure strategy success while partnering with Medical Affairs and (GV&A) for product value demonstration and evidence-generation plans that support long-term access strategies across the product lifecycle; ensure decision-making includes all relevant access and therapeutic area objectives and perspectives.
Be the voice of HIV Market Access Strategy by providing input into brand planning processes, bridging coverage/access goals with emerging payer needs and communicated these effectively to cross-functional teams and Senior Leadership.
Understand and demonstrate the key principles of biopharmaceutical product marketing to multiple payer, as well as key provider segments.
Oversee dedicated MAS budget to ensure targets are met and spending is focused on most impactful projects - oversee Payer marketing tactics/resources for current assets aligned with Medical Affairs, Sales, and Marketing priorities.
Provide guidance and drive cross-portfolio/franchise access initiatives which positive impact the entire TA or portfolio (e.g. enterprise strategic thinking and project).
Develop and maintain broad, deep, and current Payer/customer expertise, through communication and coordination with Field/Account Teams and their Leadership to ensure access resources, strategies and materials are developed to support these Teams and secure and maintain optimal access.
Lead and develop a high-performing access Team and embody Gilead’s leadership commitments of “I am Bold”, “I Care”, “I Listen”, “I Trust” and “I Own”, creating a culture that emphasizes the importance of ensuring all employees are supported and developed.
Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate and 12+ years of experience OR
Master’s and 12+ years of experience OR
Bachelor’s and 14+ years of experience OR
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or other advanced degree
Demonstrated breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities, including leading high-performing teams and the ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes, and create business impact.
Deep understanding of the US healthcare environment and the payer/reimbursement space; ability to identify trends in healthcare that impact our business and to develop and drive strategies and tactics that will help ensure sustainable business success.
Proven track record of success in developing, implementing, and executing access strategies that drive business performance; anticipate obstacles, barriers, challenges, and identifies opportunities to inform and navigate.
Excellent strategic and analytical skills and business financial and economics acumen.
Advanced strategic thinking skills and demonstrative strategic storytelling competencies as evidenced by the ability to identify alternative scenarios, resulting implications, and development of pragmatic recommendations; model to ensure team members are leveling up.
Clear communication skills with senior leaders: the ability to navigate internal organization/processes, mobilize key stakeholders, and engage both colleagues and senior leadership.
Experience managing and executing complex U.S. market access plans, including product launches and access marketing, in a dynamic payer/pricing environment.
