What you will do

The Senior Director of Software Engineering for our core products leads all aspects of the core engineering team, from strategy and execution to culture and management. This role is essential for shaping technical direction and ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable SaaS products. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the Sr. Director helps define and implement technology strategy across Education, Government, Healthcare, and Manufacturing verticals. Reporting to the CTO, this leader is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing engineering activities to meet customer needs and support ongoing product development.

Define and implement the software development strategy and technical vision in alignment with the company’s product direction and business objectives. Lead and mentor multiple teams, including managers, by fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, as well as recruiting and developing top talent. Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery across teams to ensure timely completion and adherence to budget constraints, while maintaining agile methodologies and monitoring key performance indicators such as developer productivity. Provide technical guidance to ensure scalable and secure solutions, including review of application designs, management of technical debt, and modernization of the application stack. Champion a data-driven development culture focused on cost-effective coding practices. Serve as an effective liaison between technical teams and stakeholders, communicating technical concepts and solutions clearly. Direct the Core Engineering team in executing our global R&D roadmap and strategic priorities. Build and maintain a high-performing engineering team by promoting collaboration and innovation. Drive initiatives for product transformation, by modernizing and addressing tech-debt in development of existing products. Partner with product, design, sales, customer success, and marketing teams to ensure alignment and successful product launches. Make informed technical decisions daily, balancing engineering, business, and customer needs. Foster a data-driven environment that prioritizes continuous improvement to enhance efficiency, performance, scalability, stability, and security. Ensure compliance with technology standards and procedures as established by Engineering leadership. Deliver excellence in execution, technical vision, and direction, ensuring alignment with overall company strategy. Advocate for the consistent adoption of Agile methodologies, JIRA management, and sprint planning, in accordance with our Brightly Way of Working. Communicate regularly with stakeholders regarding the status of the core engineering team, recognizing achievements and identifying areas where additional support may be required. What you need BS in Computer Science or a related engineering field; MBA preferred. Minimum of 18 years of software engineering experience, at least 8 years in leadership or management overseeing software engineering teams and initiatives Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail. In-depth knowledge of cost considerations related to software and infrastructure. Proficiency in technologies such as Java, .NET, AWS, front-end frameworks, GitHub Copilot Experience leading and managing teams exceeding 100 members with diverse skills and backgrounds. Familiarity with operational management technologies in EdTech, GovTech, Manufacturing, and Healthcare Background in coaching, mentoring, and sustaining an Engineering talent pipeline. Travel requirements: Approximately 20%. The pay range for this position is 172000 - 233000 annually with a target incentive of 20 of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
