Senior Director, Retention and Culture

This position is intended to be a hybrid in office position, 3 days a week in the office in our Brentwood, TN location.

The Senior Director, Retention and Culture drives enterprise-wide strategies to strengthen organizational culture, improve employee engagement, and reduce workplace turnover, particularly within correctional facilities.  Collaborates with business and HR leaders to identify drivers of employee experience and implements data-informed programs to increase workforce stability, foster a values-based culture, and align talent strategies with organizational goals.  Combines strategic planning, cultural transformation, and continuous improvement to support operational success in a complex, highly regulated, and mission-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The incumbent should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements.

1.      Develops and implements enterprise strategies to enhance employee retention, foster a resilient organizational culture, and elevate engagement across all levels of the company.         

2.      Leads initiatives to embed CoreCivic's values into daily operations, leadership behaviors, and people practices.  Facilitates programs that promote inclusion, accountability, and respect throughout the organization.

3.      Implements scalable culture initiatives based on enterprise-wide assessments, pulse surveys, and qualitative feedback.  Uses findings to define culture goals, measure progress, and support local and company-wide action planning.

4.      Supports large-scale organizational change efforts by applying change management frameworks and employee communication strategies that foster engagement and mitigate risk during transitions.

 

5.      Oversees retention-focused projects such as onboarding redesign, mentorship programs, and front-line supervisor development, working cross-functionally to improve key workforce metrics.

6.      Champions employee voice and recognition programs, including listening sessions, feedback loops, and enterprise appreciation efforts to enhance morale and psychological safety

7.      Leads and develops a high-performing team focused on culture engagement, and employee experience.  Fosters collaboration, innovation, and results-driven execution.

8.      Partners with business leaders and HR teams to diagnose root causes of turnover and disengagement.  Implements tailored solutions that strengthen the employee value proposition, particularly for high-turnover front-line roles.

9.      Provides consultative support to facility administrators and operational leaders on local retention and culture plans, ensuring alignment with company strategy while allowing for site-level customization.

10.  Monitors workforce data and analytics to identify trends, predict retention risks, and evaluate the effectiveness of culture and engagement initiatives.  Develops KPIs and dashboards in partnership with HR analytics.

11.  Domestic U.S. travel is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field is required.  Master's degree in Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or Business Administration preferred.  Eight years of progressive HR or OD experience, with three years of experience in a people leadership role focused on culture, engagement, or retention initiatives is required.  Experience with change enablement, employee listening tools, and culture-building frameworks.  Strong understanding of culture shaping, retention strategies, employee engagement, and workforce analytics.  Demonstrated ability to manage cross-function projects, lead a small team, and deliver results aligned with broader HR strategy.  Ability to use HR metrics and data to guide program design, decision-making, and storytelling.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across a diverse and operationally focused workforce.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
