**Position Summary:**
The “Head of Data Strategy & Products – Global Development” leads the strategy, design, and delivery of user-centric, reusable data products that support clinical execution, operational insights, and regulatory readiness. This role establishes the productization of high-value data assets across Global Development, focusing on end-to-end data flow from protocol development to submission and including external data sources (e.g. performance data, competitor information etc.) and RWE. Data Strategy & Products – GD works in close collaboration with Global Functions Team, enabling GF team to deliver Data Science and AI/ML solutions designed for Global Development.
A core responsibility includes developing a Development Ontology as the semantic backbone of Global Development data, aligned with the broader strategy of integration of R&D data landscape. The ontology serves as a foundational layer for data product standardization, reuse, and interoperability. The Head of Data Strategy & Products – GD works in close collaboration with centralized Data Platform & Governance, Knowledge Management functions. Seamless integration between data product structures and graph-based reasoning capabilities is jointly ensured.
Beyond the close collaboration with the Data Platform & Governance, Knowledge Management, Master Data Management, the following liaisons are critical for the success to establish a Data Products function for Global Development:
+ In partnership with Global Functions team, engages Clinical Development, Operations, Data Management, Safety, Medical Writing, QA, and other stakeholders.
+ Interfaces with the Regulatory Data Product Owner to define shared ownership models and product boundaries.
+ Collaborates with the broader Data Science and Digital Health team
+ Ensures alignment with the master data management team on shared entities e.g., clinical trial sites, studies etc. and controlled vocabulary e.g., indications, therapeutic areas etc.
The Head of Data Products – Global Development plays a central role in driving awareness, engagement, and adoption of data products across clinical development, operations, and adjacent functions.
By fostering a culture of **data literacy, trust, and self-service** , the Head of Data Products ensures that data assets are not only built but **embraced and sustained** as enterprise capabilities.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Data Product Strategy & Execution**
+ Defines and maintains a roadmap for data products supporting Global Development, including:
+ Protocol and study design
+ Site and study startup data
+ Trial Master File (TMF) metadata
+ Operational KPIs and performance dashboards
+ Submission tracking and readiness indicators
+ Clinical trial disclosure and transparency datasets
+ Embeds product thinking, agile delivery, and FAIR data principles across the product lifecycle.
**Ontology & Semantic Modeling**
+ Leads the development and governance of a Development Ontology to enable semantic consistency across operational and regulatory data domains.
+ Aligns the ontology with internal metadata standards and external frameworks
**Collaboration with Knowledge Management**
+ Partners with the Knowledge Management team to ensure alignment between the Development Ontology and the enterprise knowledge graph.
+ Contributes to shared governance of vocabularies, taxonomies, and semantic layers that enable knowledge reasoning, search, and graph-based automation.
**Team & Operating Model Leadership**
+ Builds and leads a cross-functional team.
+ Establishes agile delivery processes, value tracking metrics, and product lifecycle governance.
**Value Realization & Communication**
+ Defines and tracks KPIs.
+ Communicates product vision, roadmaps, and value realization to stakeholders.
**Qualifications:**
+ Education & Experience
+ Advanced degree in life sciences, informatics, natural sciences, data science, or related discipline.
+ 10+ years of experience in pharma/biotech in relevant roles.
+ Strong record of delivering business-critical data solutions.
+ Skills & Expertise
+ Deep knowledge of the clinical trial lifecycle.
+ Experience in data product design and semantic modeling.
+ Familiarity with ontological frameworks, metadata governance, and industry standards.
+ Experience with knowledge graphs and semantic web technologies.
+ Familiarity with clinical trial systems, like CTMS, EDC, eTMF etc.
**Strategic Impact:**
Through this role, high-value data products are positioned as strategic enablers of insight, automation, and compliance across Global Development. By embedding semantic rigor and aligning with industry-wide data harmonization efforts, the Head of Data Products plays a central role in transforming how development data is structured, shared, and used across the organization and beyond.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $173,000 to $299,000 for US locations listed.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
