What is the opportunity?
This role is responsible for the pricing of all individual life, health and wealth lines of business. The incumbent must have deep understanding of individual insurance products value proposition to clients, the competitive landscape, actuarial pricing and reserving, along with operational understanding around sales, distribution and servicing. The Senior Director, Individual Pricing will assist in driving our strategic objectives forward in an effort to significantly enhance both the recognition and value of the RBC Insurance brand. Understanding and communicating profit emergence and volatility of individual products in relation to RBCI’s strategy, and optimizing the results will be crucial to this role.
What will you do?
• Oversight of the pricing and development of RBC Insurance’s Individual life, health and wealth products in accordance with Pricing and Risk Management Corporate Policies
• Support business strategy to build solid competitive advantages and introduce new product features / modify existing product features
• Provide ongoing monitoring, quarterly review and reporting to ensure disclosure and enable sound understanding and management of all key products pricing
• Review profitability reports for Individual L&H, and recommends actions that will produce profitable growth
• Evaluate and maintain the profitability metrics through actuarial thought leadership, research, and robust quantitative analysis
• Collaborate with and influence internal business partners including Product Management, Product Development, Corporate Underwriting, Group Risk Management, Finance, New Business Operations, Customer Service and Sales
• Interact and negotiate with external partners including reinsurers, and industry groups
What will you need to succeed?
• 10+ years of experience in the life insurance industry
• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics or Science
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
• Leadership skills to engage teams with varying technical or operational disciplines including ability to communicate effectively to drive actions to support business growth
• Ability to influence senior leaders in cross functional areas
• Very strong analytical and technical skills, including finance, operations, sales/marketing and distribution
• Actuarial knowledge of individual insurance standards of practice, reserving principles, product design, pricing framework, capital regime, and regulatory compliance guidelines
• Ability to juggle multiple, time sensitive priorities while dealing with ambiguity and work under pressure which often requires agile thinking around complex problems
