What You'll Do Avalara is looking for a bold, transformation leader to step into the newly created role of Senior Director, Global Business Transformation. Reporting to the VP, Business Excellence, you'll be the architect and driver of large-scale change across our global Customer and Compliance Operations (CCO) function—managing the full transformation lifecycle from vision to execution. This role is about more than process improvement—it's about rethinking how we operate at scale to deliver better outcomes for our customers, partners, and teams. You'll lead a global team of Lean Six Sigma experts, automation strategists, and analytics professionals, and serve as an important partner to senior leadership across Product, Engineering, Finance, RevOps, and more. This role will be based on the east coast or out of our Durham, NC location. #LI-Hybrid What Your Responsibilities Will Be Lead the end-to-end enterprise transformation roadmap for the CCO organization, in consideration of our priorities and performance goals. Establish and run the transformation governance model—driving initiative selection, risk management, team member agreement, and value tracking. Build, coach, and scale a global team across India, the UK, and the US, focused on automation, analytics, and continuous improvement. Champion Lean Six Sigma practices to lead measurable improvements in cost efficiency, cycle time, quality, and customer experience. Integrate automation (AI/ML, RPA) into the operating model to unlock capacity, improve and guide customer responsiveness. Manage data-to-action frameworks that bring executive-level insights to life—connecting transformation efforts to P&L, CSAT, and productivity metrics. Collaborate with the Corporate PMO, Customer Experience Office, and main functional leaders to ensure cohesive execution and scalable impact. What You'll Need to be Successful 15+ years of progressive experience leading business transformation, operational strategy, or business excellence projects in global, matrixed environments. Experience driving enterprise-wide Lean Six Sigma (Black Belt or Master Black Belt required) and automation projects with tangible Return on investment. Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML and RPA strategies in partnership with Technology and Engineering teams. Experience translating data into strategic insights, including data storytelling and proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Comfortable conveying data-driven insights and strategic updates to executive audiences. Bachelor's degree required Pay Range Details The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations. Colorado $185,800-$306,600 [annually] Washington $205,400-$338,800 [annually] California $185,800-$371,100 [annually] NYC $205,400-$371,100 [annually] The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
