As part of the Global Corporate Sustainability team, the Senior Director of Environmental Sustainability will lead McCormick’s global approach to environmental sustainability, focusing on issues that are important to our stakeholders and partnering with the Director of Social Sustainability to ensure coordination. The role will build upon McCormick’s leadership in climate change by driving a regularly updated, integrated, enterprise-wide environmental sustainability plan that protects and enhances McCormick’s reputation and mitigates risk, identify impact opportunities and adapt proven solutions to drive decision-making that integrates sustainability for material topics, while building relationships with external stakeholders. This role will also provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership in environmental sustainability best practices and emerging trends and represent the company in external engagements. This position reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer and supervises the Greenhouse Gas Manager. The role may require up to 20% travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead execution of integrated, enterprise-wide Climate Transition Action Plan for McCormick that upholds McCormick’s reputation, drives value, and mitigates risk. Work with cross-functional teams to regularly update McCormick’s Climate Transition Action Plan, including updating specifics of progress and actions across identified decarbonization levers, assessing and setting actions for climate risk mitigation in response to climate scenario analysis results, and integrating other environmental and social sustainability considerations. Align plan with external stakeholder expectations and peer benchmarks. Establish governance and accountability mechanisms to support plan alignment, risk mitigation, and actioning against the path to delivery. Establish and/or recommend company positions, policies, and standard operating practices, for material environmental sustainability matters or for emerging regulatory requirements. Creates a glidepath for enabling compliance with current and emerging regulatory requirements company-wide. Builds on and coordinates work across the organization on environmental sustainability topics (e.g. sustainable agriculture, sustainable packaging, biodiversity). Serves as direct supervisor for Greenhouse Gas Manager, responsible for company carbon data management that is aligned with the latest science, industry guidance, and best practice. Identify impact opportunities and adapt proven solutions to drive decision-making that integrates environmental sustainability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into business processes, product development, and decision-making frameworks. Provide data-driven recommendations for improvements and provide guidance on implementation. Partner with Director of Social Sustainability to coordinate recommendations that align environmental and social sustainability priorities. Build relationships with external stakeholders and represent the company in prioritized external fora. Identify opportunities to showcase thought leadership and represent the company in prioritized external events and conferences. Liaise with external stakeholders, such as NGOs, to drive our sustainability agenda and develop partnerships that enable collective action on top environmental issues. Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership in sustainability best practices and emerging trends. Build awareness among employees at all levels to engage in sustainability efforts. Partner with the Director Global Sustainability to proactively engage customers on McCormick’s sustainability approach. Liaise with appropriate internal partners to provide a comprehensive view of McCormick’s environmental sustainability initiatives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS Environmental or relevant scientific/engineering field; Graduate degree in relevant field preferred Prior experience in environmental sustainability, corporate sustainability, climate change program management, or related fields Strong analytical skills to synthesize and communicate trends based on complex data Deep technical expertise in environmental sustainability in complex global supply chains and operations and interconnectedness issues (e.g. climate change, biodiversity, sustainable/regenerative agriculture, sustainable packaging) Expertise in the interconnectedness of environmental and social sustainability issues Understanding and awareness of evolving regulatory landscape for environmental sustainability Understanding and awareness of industry standard-setting or guidance bodies (e.g. Science-Based Target Initiative, GHG Protocol) Excellent communication and influencing skills The ability to work globally, taking into account the regional differences in cultures and work practices. Demonstrated history of effectively coordinating conflicting priorities in a fast-paced work environment. The ability to work cross-functionally and coordinate multiple workstreams toward a common objective. Strong problem-solving skills. Record of achievement in using effective influence and communication skills with individuals at all levels and functions. The ability to develop key metrics and drive and transparently track progress.
Base Salary: $140,610-253,080
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Sales Incentive Bonus (SIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Dividend Program.
