Job Description
The Washington Post is seeking a visionary Senior Director, Advertising Monetization and Revenue Operations to lead the product and operational future of our advertising business. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this executive will collaborate on building a sustainable monetization strategy, oversee the full advertising revenue lifecycle, and lead both the Advertising Product and Advertising Engineering teams.
This role is responsible for driving innovation in ad technology and business models, expanding diversified revenue streams, and aligning with the CTO and Chief Advertising Officer on how advertising evolves across our owned-and-operated platforms, emerging channels, and ARC Publishing partners. Building on the success of initiatives such as Beacon Guard, Smart Pitch, and The Convergence Network, this leader will define the next generation of scalable, differentiated advertising solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a senior strategic partner to the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Advertising Officer to define and execute a multi-year strategy for ad monetization and revenue growth.Lead the Advertising Product and Advertising Engineering organizations, executing a bold innovation roadmap that serves clients across platforms and partnerships.Support P&L accountability across all advertising channels—including direct, programmatic, branded content, and off-platform media.Collaborate with senior executives on a long-term vision for monetization across O&O, third-party, and ARC-powered experiences, with emphasis on privacy-first and performance-based solutions.Evolve and scale advertising solutions that are rooted in first-party data, contextual targeting, and differentiated user experiences.Define success metrics and build a data-driven operational framework to manage yield, pricing strategy, product performance, and business health.Collaborate closely with Sales, Editorial, Client Operations, and Data Science to align monetization priorities with audience insights and business opportunities.Represent The Post externally with industry stakeholders, technology partners, and clients as a thought leader in advertising innovation.Foster a culture of agility, experimentation, and customer-centricity across multidisciplinary teams.Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of senior leaders across engineering, product, and business operations.Qualifications
12+ years of progressive leadership experience in digital media, advertising technology, or related fields.Proven track record in leading monetization strategies and managing P&L at scale.Deep expertise in ad tech, programmatic ecosystems, audience strategy, and publisher monetization models.Experience building and scaling high-impact product and engineering teams.Strong grasp of data architecture, privacy-forward monetization, and machine learning applications in advertising.Ability to think strategically and translate complex market signals into actionable business plans.Confident and persuasive communicator capable of aligning senior stakeholders and representing the organization externally.High EQ leadership style with a passion for innovation, talent development, and cross-functional collaboration.Experience navigating high-growth or transformational environments is highly valued.The Washington Post’s policy for employees is five days per week in the office, with exceptions for newsgathering and general business travel.

The salary range for this position is:
198,200.00 - 368,000.00 USD AnnualThe actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
