Your Role

We are currently seeking a Senior Development Engineer: Plastic Product Design for a role within the Single Use and Integrated Systems R&D group at MilliporeSigma Process Solutions business unit.  In this position, the individual will be responsible for developing innovative plastic-based products and equipment used in pharmaceutical and biotech applications, with a focus on leveraging advanced knowledge of thermoplastics and polymer processing technologies. This position will be based at our Bedford, MA campus.

 

Responsibilities: 

In this dynamic environment, the candidate will lead and participate in product development teams. Specific contributions include Design, Development and Validation of single use products and new manufacturing equipment and processes resulting in a successful commercial launch. Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging materials, technologies, and customer needs to maintain the company's competitive edgeOversee the design, testing, and validation of single-use bioprocessing products including injection molded, extruded, or bonded plastic components, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standardsDrive innovation in materials, design, and manufacturing processes to enhance performance, scalability, and cost-effectivenessEnsure effective technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing for seamless production scale-upEnsure all products meet cGMP, ISO 13485, USP Class VI, and other relevant biopharmaceutical regulations

 

The successful candidate will have experience with:

 

Innovative Product DesignDesign for Manufacturing and AssemblyLeading projects involving plastics injection molding, bonding and processing machinery. Design Control activities such as qualification, validation, design of experiments, FMEA and design for manufacturing is required.Experience with Stage Gate development process.Up to date CAD skills and proficiency with SolidWorksPlanning and executing DoE in conjunction with supporting data analysis and statistical softwareA hands-on approach in a development lab environmentMeeting project goals and deadlines while achieving cost targets.Effective interpersonal skills and interface effectively with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Product Management functions.Building and maintaining vendor relationships

 

 

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

BS in Mechanical, Plastics, or Chemical Engineering with 10 years of experienceOr MSc in Mechanical, Plastics, or Chemical Engineering with 7 years of experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in product and equipment designDeep understanding and hands-on experience with thermoplastic materials is highly valued and central to this role.Limited travel may be required.
