Job Description

Our internally developed software is built to provide efficiency and functionality to our operations personnel in branch offices and warehouses, allowing Expeditors to provide outstanding customer service, competitive rates, and differentiating technologies for logistics management. Our systems are an integrated suite of collaborative supply chain applications that are designed to assist our operations teams and customers in managing international and domestic shipping challenges.

The document management team focuses on building and sustaining the digital capture, storage, movement, and strategic use of documents related to shipments, supply chain, customs, and accounting, and we have a lot of untapped potential as it relates to automating business processes through semantic understanding of documents that need significant engineering effort

The team is accelerating its efforts to modernize our document systems, including moving functionality to the cloud and utilizing AI to intelligently process documents. This position will provide technical leadership for these efforts, especially in the area of cloud technologies.

What you will be doing:

Playing a technical leadership role on a collaborative agile development team, responsible for the design and production of mission critical, enterprise-scale applicationsTranslating requirements into system design specifications and the implementation of systems throughout the entire software development life cycleDeveloping a thorough understanding of the logistics business domainMaintaining an awareness of evolving technologies in use by other teams at Expeditors and in the technology industry as a wholeCollaborating with other senior developers and architects across the Information Services organizationMentoring and coaching others on the team, especially in areas related to cloud design and development

This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA. area at one of the following locations depending on availability. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field of study, or equivalent experienceAt least ten years in a software development role in a team environmentDemonstrated Java coding abilities in large scale applicationsA drive to modernize existing systems and processes, while supporting current-gen productsDemonstrated understanding of distributed system design patterns at scale, as well as delivery and operationsExperience building and operating systems using DevSecOps/GitOps tools and processes (Gitlab CI/CD/Github+Actions, operational monitoring using Grafana/etc)Significant experience building applications utilizing cloud technologies, ideally Azure-related servicesDemonstrated knowledge and experience with:Object oriented analysis and designMicroservice design and operations, ideally with containers & KubernetesMessaging systems such as Apache KafkaRelational database concepts and SQLRESTful and GraphQL API'sCustomer service-oriented attitude and great time-management skillsAbility to communicate effectively with IT and Business stakeholders

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Agile/SAFe experience, including continuous improvement of team processesFamiliarity with modern document pipelines and processes, including parsing, understanding, and classification and semantic understandingFront-end development practices, with Javascript/Typescript/CSS and modern frameworksSpring, Spring Boot, and dependency injectionWeb-based and service-based architectures and deployment paradigmsLinux Operating systems including RedHatInterest and capability diving into other languages (Python, Delphi, etc.)

Additional Information

Expected base salary:  $140,000 to $200,000

May be eligible for bonus following first year of continuous employment in position.
