Senior Design Engineer

Role description:

This role will form an integral part of our Global Excellence Centre (GEC) – Arcadis centralized and fully integrated project delivery group. Our GEC is made up of more than 3,000 talented individuals working in offices across Romania, India and Philippines, providing Capability, Capacity and a Competitive Advantage across a wide array of unique projects and services, in collaboration with our global businesses.

The MEP Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) in the GECs is comprised of cross-functional teams, that contribute to the development of innovative MEP solutions that optimize energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort. Our ability to effectively manage projects, assess client needs, and provide technical guidance is crucial in delivering successful outcomes, using the most innovative way of doing computational design. 

Role accountabilities:

Solid experience in designing HVAC systems including selection of equipment such as AHUs, ventilators, heat pumps, boilers, heat exchangers, fan coils, etc.  Designs and evaluates multiple technical solutions for an asset, conducting technical assessments to identify the system that best aligns with client and project requirements. Oversees the design process, including calculations, functional diagrams (PID), schematic drawings, and the development of final working drawings. Build proficiency in Revit, BIM checking software, and other specialized tools used for calculations (e.g. Design Builder, Revit add-ins). Plan, organize, and execute projects effectively including budget management, cross-discipline coordination, and oversight mid/junior-level design engineers. Estimates the required budget, resource allocation, and project schedule for the entire HVAC scope.  Develop engineering documents, including equipment specifications, reports, and presentations, while adhering to company standards, procedures, and quality assurance processes for design and review. Attend relevant design and client meetings to gain a better understanding of the project and design work required, asking questions of the internal team as necessary. Ensure that HVAC designs meet safety and environmental regulations, sustainability and energy efficiencies regulations following industry standards and guidelines. Implement national/international standards in HVAC design as well as client demands and project specific requirements. 

Qualifications & Experience:

Mandatory

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations. Solid knowledge in design software (e.g., AutoCAD) and calculation software (e.g., Design Builder). Minimum of 6+ year experience in HVAC design engineering is required. Strong English language skills. Extensive knowledge of national, international and local codes and standards.  Good knowledge of energy and sustainability regulations and industry best practices. Proven ability to innovate and develop creative technical solutions to advanced HVAC design challenges. They should excel in problem-solving and improving HVAC performance through innovative technologies and methods. Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective collaboration with clients, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders throughout the design process. Implementation of quality procedure to ensure a good design deliverable.  Strong leadership skills and previous experience in managing medium to large-scale projects.

Nice to have

Master’s degree in Mechanical Installations, especially HVAC field. Expertise in energy efficiency and sustainability. Good knowledge of BREEM, LEED and other certification standards is highly valued. Affiliation to professional organizations.
