What you'll be doing
The Sr. Debt Products Manager will be a key member of our New York City based Commercial Real Estate (“CRE”) team, responsible for ensuring objectives related to credit underwriting, transaction management and client service for new loan origination activities are met. The Sr. Debt Products Manager will be responsible leading the execution of complex deals from origination through closing, producing consistent deal underwriting materials and analyzing and mitigating risk for credit opportunities that are being recommended for approval. The Sr. Debt Products Manager will work in close collaboration with the Client Management team, Debt Products (DP) colleagues, Asset Management team and Credit partners. The Sr. Debt Products Manager will have direct Borrower interaction and will be responsible for maintaining the client-focused nature of the CRE business. The role also has both external and internal responsibilities including direct engagement with Syndications and Capital Markets amongst others.

You have a degree/diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

You have demonstrated expertise in Underwriting/Credit Approval/Loan Closing: working all aspects of the credit life cycle, including ability to lead credit underwriting process, provide experienced judgement on risk factors and structuring recommendations. Prepare analysis, materials and memos for internal presentation, including New Deal Prescreens and Loan Presentation documents. Oversee loan closings and third party due diligence in coordination with internal teams and external counsel. Accountable for accuracy of loan approval documents and legal documents. Interact directly with clients in collaboration with Client Management team to ensure detailed understanding of new transaction requests and meet timing expectations. Participate in periodic property inspections.
You have demonstrated expertise in Risk Management: Working with Debt Product Team Leads on evolving trends in Commercial Real Estate with collaboration from Asset Management team. Ensure that the policy, procedure and reference material which govern loan originations and closings are appropriately followed. Provide feedback to the DP Team Lead and/or Head of Debt Products in preparation for Known and Emerging Risk Meetings. Provide appropriate materials and submissions as needed to support the Head of Portfolio Administration in response to regulators and auditors – internal and external. Work with the Debt Product Team Lead to ensure issue remediation strategy is sufficient, sustainable, and timely (in accordance with remediation plan/target date). Work with the DP Team Lead and/or Head of Debt Products in developing and executing management action plans, working with Governance & Controls team, Independent Risk Management (as required per the applicable policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines), and Audit as needed. Ensure that Head of Debt Products has the appropriate materials and submissions as needed to support regulatory filings. Respond to second line challenge of line of business risk identification and review and provide input to materials generated for risk identification processes (e.g. risk self-assessments, minutes, and decks). Escalate data incident reports and ensure information is captured accurately (including root cause, impact, and control analysis).
You have demonstrated experience with Cross-functional Relationships; Building and maintaining cross-functional partnerships and networks to contribute and drive strong execution around key business initiatives. Maintaining strong partnerships with other business functions/units (i.e. Credit, Finance, etc.). Assisting in managing deal pipeline, and other internal reporting requirements. Staying current on industry/market conditions, ensuring policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines (identification of emerging issues) remain up to date and adjust or recommend changes to procedures and standards as appropriate. Recommending appropriate risk ratings in collaboration with Debt Product Team Lead. Understands CIBC appetite/limit capacity for deal-specific attributes including business execution, security, HVCRE, etc. Escalates “Issues List” from loan document negotiation to Client Manager and Debt Product Team Lead on new transactions as applicable.
At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $165,000 - $227,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
