About the role: 

We are seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to enhance the reliability of our critical database infrastructure using a software-engineering-based approach. This role will be a direct member of our Database Administration Team, acting as both an individual contributor as well as a mentor to the team. In this role, you will collaborate with multiple teams across our IT department to build resilient database solutions that meet the demands of our large-scale applications. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background with a passion for working with databases.

What you will do: 

Design, automate, and monitor highly available and scalable database solutions.  Enhance monitoring, alerting, and overall observability to facilitate proactive issue resolution.Improve database security, backups, and disaster recovery strategies.Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions for database automation and configuration management.Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and drive improvements after-the-fact to reduce toil.Stay updated with emerging technologies and recommend enhancements.On-call, but working on ways to avoid on-call.


What you need: 

5+ years of experience in database administration, reliability engineering, or database engineering5+ years of experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automationExperience working in high-transaction, large-scale, 24/7/365 database environmentsStrong proficiency in automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, GIT, PowerShell, or KubernetesExperience implementing database monitoring, logging, and observability solutionsUnderstanding of cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and database-as-a-service (DBaaS)Experience supporting and developing CI/CD pipelines for database managementStrong desire to be a self-learner and or a "pioneer"Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) preferredFamiliarity with observability tools (Solarwinds, OpenTelemetry, and or Datadog) desiredDeep understanding of at least one database technology (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and or Azure) preferredExperience with multi-region and globally distributed databases preferred
