Senior Database Developer

The Internal Markets Integration Team is located in the heart of the Global Health Benefits delivery group and is in charge of Cigna's ETL integration points between each policy administration and front-end system. The integration team is supporting a number of innovative projects, such as a brand-new ecosystem centered around various Salesforce and policy admin platforms.

As a member of this team, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of our existing systems, as well as establishing how our data-driven solutions are developed and coded. You will be encouraged to contribute your own ideas and expertise, as well as to keep your skills up to date through training and learning.

The position reports to a Data Engineering Manager and you will have the opportunity to engage with multiple teams across a number of different technological disciplines and geographical locations.

Job Description Summary

Provides counsel and advice to top management on significant Application Development matters, often requiring coordination between organizations. Acts as the designer of complex major systems and their subsystems utilizing a thorough understanding of available technology, tools and existing designs. Provides comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staff at the highest technical level on all phases of application programming and processes for diverse development platforms, computing environments (e.g., host based, distributed systems, client server, software, hardware, technologies and tools, etc.). Works closely with client and IT management and staff to identify application development solutions, new or modified programs, reuse of existing code through the use of program development software alternatives, or integration of purchased solutions or a combination of the available alternatives. Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost effective application programming solution. May code new or modified programs, reuse existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrates purchased solutions. Documents, tests, implements and provides on-going support for the applications. Focuses on providing thought leadership and technical expertise across multiple disciplines. Recognized internally as “the go-to person” for the most complex Application Development assignments.

As a Senior Database Developer, you will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing our data integration solutions. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to technical design, and ensure the reliability and efficiency of our ETL processes and SQL Server environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor, maintain, and enhance core ETL processes.Troubleshoot and resolve SQL Server-related issues.Collaborate with senior developers and business stakeholders to document requirements and design solutions.Develop and optimize SSIS packages and T-SQL code, including stored procedures, views, and functions.Model and document SQL data mapping solutions, working with business and other technical teams to decide on the best solution.Support regular releases and monitor data processing batches.Proactively suggest improvements to code, tools, and processes.

Essential Skills:

4+ years of experience developing and supporting SQL Server solutions.Strong proficiency in T-SQL and relational database concepts.Experience with ETL processes, preferably using SSIS.Knowledge of OLAP and OLTP environments.Solid problem-solving skills and ability to reverse engineer code.Experience working in Agile development teams.

Desirable:

Experience with C#, VB.net, or other programming languages.Familiarity with Python / PySpark.Experience with Git or other source control tools.Knowledge of SQL Change Automation or Liquibase is a plus.Exposure to continuous integration/delivery practices (CI/CD).Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or similar tools.Experience with SAFe or other Agile frameworks.
