Senior Data Scientist

The role

Lead the Finance Center of Excellence (CoE) Flash Collaborative Projects program partnering with Business Finance teams across Wolters Kluwer to optimize and standardize finance processes, reporting, and BI ToolsUse data science and advanced analytics to blend technical expertise with project management skills to deliver automation, analytics, and AI/ML forecasting initiatives.Drive strong program governance including requirements gathering, progress tracking to final closure support.Consult, guide, and work on complex tasks independently.

Key responsibilities

Technical Consultant:Translate business problems during intake / requirements gathering calls into data science solutions.Assess feasibility and effort of proposed solutionsTechnical Guidance: Coordinate closely with Data Scientists and Analysts, providing oversight and support on technical aspects of projects. Leverage your knowledge in data analytics, automation, and AI/ML to ensure solutions are feasible and high-quality. Ensure technical issues are addressed swiftly and that the team has the guidance needed to succeed.Team Coordination: Lead a cross-functional project team, delegating tasks effectively and fostering a collaborative environment. While not a direct people-management role, you will coordinate resources and workflows, inspire the team towards excellence, and remove impediments to progress.Independent execution of complex and business critical tasks, data transformations, modelling or dashboard developmentMeasure Impact: Define success metrics for projects and ensure each project’s results are measured and communicated. After implementation, track the business impact (e.g., efficiency gains, accuracy improvements, financial benefits) to demonstrate value creation and identify lessons for future projects.Project Management: Manage projects from initiation, requirement scoping, development to final delivery. These will be technical projects ("Flash Projects") in the data science and analytics domain.Business & Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact from Finance COE for all the divisions (Health, TAA, FCC, LR, CPESG & Enterprise Functions) on project initiatives. Gather requirements, perform project intake, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Regularly report project status and outcomes to management and business sponsors ensuring transparency and alignment.

Key skills and experience required

At least 5 years of experience in Data scienceRequired: Bachelor’s degree in data science/analytics, finance, accounting, or economics or Engineering in Computer Science, or related quantitative fieldRequired - Visualization tools (like Tableau, Power BI etc)Strong python programming skills for data transformations with packages such as numpy and pandasKnowledge of connecting to various types of data sources through python as well as dashboarding toolsSound knowledge of statistical modelling, AI and ML algorithmsStrong analytical skillsCapable of prioritizing tasks for self and teamAgility to adapt requirements in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentAbility to communicate effectively to multiple constituencies in multiple platforms including emailExperience of Data engineeringAbility to mentor team members / colleagues especially in technical aspects such as debugging, right coding practices or analysis methodology.Ability to research independently on latest trends and techniquesProject management fundamentals to track and manage data science projects from initiation to delivery
