Senior Counsel - IP
**About the role:** NetApp, a multi-billion-dollar intelligent data infrastructure company, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Counsel to join its award-winning legal department. This role is integral to managing and protecting NetApp's intellectual property, with a strong emphasis on open source software, trademark management, and Generative AI initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting engineering teams, marketing teams, and the broader Product and IP Group. This position provides a unique opportunity to influence and shape the legal strategies around innovative technologies and branding efforts, while ensuring compliance and fostering growth across the company.  **Key Responsibilities** + Provide comprehensive legal support, training, and consulting on IP (trademarks and copyright) and open source matters. + Manage trademark portfolio and copyright registrations for products. + Consult on and manage IP and licensing portfolios, addressing both inbound and outbound open source software issues. + Develop and implement strategies for managing and leveraging open source software within the company's products and services. + Ensure compliance with open source licenses and provide guidance on best practices for using and contributing to open source projects. + Handle tech transactions and issues related to open source and IP licensing, data privacy, and security. + Mitigate legal issues around the application and deployment of GenAI + Liaison with product marketing and engineering teams on licensing and GenAI initiatives. + Contribute to the development and optimization of programs and processes within IP. + Provide legal counsel on marketing materials, campaigns, and initiatives to ensure compliance with IP laws and regulations. + Provide support to other members of the Product and IP Group as needed. **Qualifications** + A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house practice, supporting tech transactions or product development in cloud services or SaaS markets. + Strong interest and ability to develop an in-depth knowledge of NetApp's data storage and management solutions. + Knowledge and experience in IP matters, product development, SaaS, IP and open source licensing. + Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. **Education:** + Bar admission in any jurisdiction with good standing \#Sponsor Compensation: The target salary range for this position is $171K - $255K. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
