I. Job Summary
Serve as WM in-house counsel supporting complex commercial contract negotiation, drafting, implementation and enforcement for WM’s national account lines of business by which WM provides an array of waste, recycling and sustainability services to commercial customers with multiple regional or nationwide locations. The position will also include commercial legal support for WM’s field operations in the New England Area with respect to facility permitting and development projects, public sector contracts, government and regulatory affairs, and the management of commercial and regulatory litigation matters as necessary through the assistance of outside counsel. Legal support provided by this position will be focused primarily on moderate to large, complex commercial/business matters. The position will contribute to and interact with staff including senior business line and area leadership teams, and other WM legal professionals.
The position is located in the greater Hartford area in Windsor, CT, or the Greater Boston Area including use of WM’s offices in Foxboro, MA, or in the Greater Philadelphia Area through WM’s offices located in Newtown, Bucks County, PA. Some travel will be required.
II. Essential Skills, Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the skills and be able to satisfactorily perform the duties and responsibilities set forth below. Other minor duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
+ Provide proactive legal and practical business advice to internal Company management at both the national account and regional level;
+ Assist in preparing, reviewing, negotiating, implementing, and enforcing legal documents on the Company’s behalf, including a variety of contracts and bid documents, and assist management in representing the organization in legal disputes and transactions;
+ Provide legal support on facility development, permitting, permit modifications;
+ Provide general legal support to Company sales force including contract preparation, review, and enforcement, and customer service and customer relations issues;
+ Provide general legal support and advice to collection, disposal, recycling, and related field operations;
+ Conduct risk assessments in connection with customer, vendor, operations, industry and/or business issues, and advise management on most appropriate response or action;
+ Manage outside counsel activities as necessary including determining effective business and legal strategy to address litigation and/or other specific operational needs;
+ Provide general legal support and advice on competitive concerns and general antitrust issues;
+ Advise Company personnel on corporate policies and procedures;
+ Ensure compliance with basic corporate formalities in the context of an enterprise consisting of numerous individual corporate entities working together both horizontally and vertically;
+ Reinforce Company compliance culture and business principles including “success with integrity;”
+ Interface with numerous departments and functions within the Company to work effectively and provide a high-level of service to our business partners.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
WM’s national account lines of business includes a dedicated team of three additional paralegals/administrative professionals that may be located in the same or different office.
IV. Qualifications

Must live and work in the U.S.
A. Education and Experience
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and five (5) or more years of previous relevant experience, including as in-house counsel, law firm practice, and/or governmental legal department.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
State Bar licensure.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Teams, Outlook, and other basic computer and communications technology.

The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $200,000 - $260,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
