ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Claims Consultant is responsible for managing a caseload of management liability and professional liability claims of moderate complexity and severity. This role requires a strategic, detail-oriented professional who can resolve claims efficiently and in accordance with company best practices and authority guidelines. The consultant will conduct thorough coverage analyses, assess liability and exposure, establish appropriate reserves, and participate in mediations and trials as needed. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders—including agents, insureds, and legal counsel—is essential to ensure high-quality claims handling and exceptional service delivery.
The Senior Claims Consultant will be expected to:
Analyze liability and damages to establish accurate reserves aligned with potential exposureEvaluate complex coverage issues and draft clear, well-supported coverage position lettersInvestigate, negotiate, and resolve claims with moderate supervision from the Chief Claims OfficerAppoint and manage outside counsel to ensure effective and cost-efficient claim resolutionMake sound decisions within assigned authority and escalate matters when appropriateOversee litigation management, including retaining counsel and approving payments within authority limitsMaintain accurate and comprehensive documentation in compliance with internal claims handling standardsDeliver outstanding service to both internal stakeholders and external clientsSupport underwriting by providing insights into risk exposure and claim trendsIdentify emerging issues or patterns that may have broader implications for the organization Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in management liability claims handling or litigation, preferably as a coverage or employment attorneyDirect experience with Employment Practices Liability (EPL) and Directors & Officers (D&O) claims is essentialBachelor’s Degree, J.D. preferred
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of insurance claims processes and the legal/regulatory environmentProven analytical and decision-making skills within authority limitsExcellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skillsHighly organized with the ability to manage priorities and seek support when neededDetail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughnessAbility to obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses within 90 daysCollaborative team player with a flexible, solutions-oriented mindset
