A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Civil/Structural Designer. In this position, you will have the opportunity to be responsible to lead the civil and structural design efforts for mining infrastructure projects, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and constructible solutions. The position will be based in Woodmead.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and review detailed civil and structural design drawings for mining infrastructure (e.g., processing plants, conveyor systems, foundations, retaining walls, substations, etc.). Prepare general arrangement drawings, reinforcement detailing, and structural steel layouts. Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other designers to ensure integrated and coordinated designs. Conduct site visits to gather data, verify existing conditions, and support construction activities. Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., SANS, Eurocode, ACI, AISC). Utilize CAD and BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Tekla Structures) to produce high-quality deliverables. Review and check drawings prepared by junior designers and drafters. Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and risk evaluations. Maintain drawing registers, revision control, and documentation in accordance with project procedures.
Qualifications and Skills Requirements: National Diploma or BTech in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent. 10–15 years of experience in civil/structural design, with a strong focus on mining and heavy industrial projects. Professional registration (e.g., ECSA) is advantageous. Proficient in CAD and structural design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Tekla, or similar). Experience working on EPCM or capital projects is a plus. Familiarity with tailings facilities, haul roads, plant layouts, and bulk earthworks is beneficial.
