Senior Civil Engineer (DOD Project)
Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for a, Senior Civil Engineer, for a 12-month contract assignment supporting the U.S. Air Force facility near Ogden, UT.  This onsite role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime, per diem, and mobilization / demobilization.  Our client is targeting $75.00/hour for this role.

Position Summary:
This role will support the ground infrastructure component of the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. This is an onsite position at Hill Air Force Base, just outside Salt Lake City, Utah.  Full time presence on project is required.

Responsibilities: Originating/checking civil calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical studies or reports. Schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc. Participates in the design, development, and modification of Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDP’s), design standards and guides, Design Control Check List (DCCL), and Design Review Notices (DRN’s). Designs structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering. Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements. Originates and checks structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions. Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions. Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques, and/or difficult coordination requirements. Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders. Completes Civil/Structural documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Civil/Structural engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction. Designs structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering. Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals. Coordinates Civil/Structural engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups. Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals. Provides technical assistance to other Civil/Structural personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards. Assist in constructability reviews. Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports.
Education / Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. 5-8 years of experience in designing facilities, roadways, site layout, and/or grading plans. Experience with CADD applications, such as Civil 3D, Revit, or MicroStation. Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and construction methods. Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects. Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally. Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications: Possess active security clearance. Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense. Experience with procurement automation tools. Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications or SpecsIntact. Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
