Senior Certification Engineer

Industrial Scientific provides the environment, leadership and support that enable our team members to exceed their career expectations consistently._ **POSITION OVERVIEW** The Senior Certification Engineer is a highly skilled engineering professional who provides expertise within the engineering team. This position is responsible for submitting, maintaining, and providing certification guidance on New Product Development projects as well as existing product enhancements. This role will serve as a subject matter expert in engineering projects related to development of ISC products while maintaining the highest quality standards. This person is expected to work closely with various groups to fully assure a properly designed product is released to production. **RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES** The duties may include but are not limited to: + Support New Product Development and sustaining projects through certification feasibility & investigation of new standards as applicable + Participate in the coordination of all aspects of the certification process within ISC + Participate in cross functional team meetings and design reviews to provide standards and regulatory input for product specification and scoping + Coordinate projects with 3rd party certification bodies such as UL, CSA, MSHA, and DEKRA to obtain global hazardous locations approvals (Class 1 Div 1 and Zone 0, intrinsically safe) on portable gas detection equipment + Support and resolve certification related technical support questions and internal customer requests + Maintain current certifications for ISC products and review proposed changes to products to ensure that they remain compliant + Participate in standards development activities that are relevant to ISC products + Support the global design team of mechanical and electrical hardware to receive agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, ANZEx, INMETRO, MSHA, etc.) + Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation for submission to certification bodies + Support quarterly certification audits internally and externally + Follow, enforce, and mature the company engineering processes + Domestic and internation travel to certification locations to assist in successful completion of certifications (travel less than 10%) **ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT** + Reports directly to Manager, Certification & Sensors **QUALIFICATIONS** **SKILLS & WORK TRAITS** + Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills + Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team + Effective written and verbal communication skills + Ability to complete tasks accurately with close attention to all aspects of work **REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES** + 10+ years of experience as a degreed Engineer with a focus on product certification + Knowledge of products designed for Intrinsically Safe Hazardous Environments + Experience managing work of 3rd party offshore teams for new product and product life cycle maintenance. + Familiarity with the following hazardous locations and gas performance standards: + IEC/EN/UL 60079-0 + IEC/EN/UL 60079-1 + IEC/EN/UL 60079-11 + UL 913 + CSA 157 + CSA 152 / CSA 22.2 60079-29-1 + IEC 60079-29-1 + EN 45544 + EN 50271 **PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES** + Familiarity with the following wireless and EMC standards: + EN 300 489-1 + EN 300 328 + EN 300 330 + IEC/EN 62479 + IEC/EN 62311 + IEC/EN 61000 + IEC/EN 50270 + Strong experience using solder equipment and mechanical tools + Experience working with battery operated low-power designs. + Some working knowledge of wireless communication protocols (BLE, WiFi, Cellular, etc.) + Experience working with gas detection instrumentation + Proficiency in using Windchill PLM, Oracle EBS, and JIRA + Demonstrated understanding of Stage-Gate and Agile development processes + Experience with simulation tools, electronic lab tools, including power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters **EDUCATION** + Bachelors in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, from an accredited college/university or equivalent degree/experience **Fortive Corporation Overview** Fortive’s essential technology makes the world stronger, safer, and smarter.
