Job Title: Buyer, Senior
Job Summary
The Senior Buyer will be responsible for managing the entire procurement process for key commodities. You will develop and implement purchasing strategies, negotiate contracts, and build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure the availability of high-quality materials and services at competitive prices.
Responsibility
Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies to drive cost savings and efficiency. Identify, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure the best terms and pricing. Monitor market trends and conduct competitive analyses to inform purchasing decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and product development, to forecast demand and align procurement strategies. Manage and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, addressing any performance issues and fostering partnerships. Lead the procurement process, including the creation and management of purchase orders and ensuring timely delivery of products and services. Analyze purchasing data and metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and cost reduction. Mentor and support buyers in their professional development and purchasing activities. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations in all procurement activities.
Academic/Educational Requirements
A post-secondary education in business administration, materials management or related field experience would be an asset Certification with PMAC or SCMP accreditation would be an asset
Required Skills/Experience
5-10 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably in the agricultural manufacturing industry Experience in using procurement systems such as ERP or similar MRP systems would be an asset Knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as Kanban, Lean, and 5S would be considered an asset Proven performance applying strategic materials management as directed Excellent customer service and relationship building skills Effective oral and written communication skill Self-driven with a high work ethic Excellent organizational, time management skills with an ability to prioritize Effective computer skills in Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and other internal systems
