Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

Job Summary

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst is expected to enable analysts throughout the Finance & Actuarial Division to provide trusted, data-driven recommendations for financial, strategic and business performance insights. This role will be responsible for tool advocacy & enablement, model building and consulting, report development & consulting, framework creation and training as part of the Analytics Solution product team. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in reporting and analytical tools and enjoy coaching, developing, and equipping others as they learn new tools and capabilities. This role is expected to exhibit a significant amount of independence in interacting with business leaders and be proactive about opportunities to further analysis that will help the business achieve its goals, including developing a detailed understanding of Thrivent’s products, systems, and processes.

This role will be a part of Finance & Actuarial Division’s Analytic Solutions Product Team - F&A Portfolio. This Senior BI Analyst role will be part of a product team (comprised of business intelligence analysts and engineers) that will partner directly with our Finance & Actuarial Division analysts and leaders to advance our descriptive, diagnostic and predictive capabilities.  

         

          

Job Responsibilities and Duties

Collaborate with technical resources, business resources, and business owners to: 1) define specific hypothesis/questions to evaluate and analyze, or 2) gather, develop, validate and analyze data and data requirements in support of business operations.Conducts complex SQL queries and works with other data extraction, reporting and analytic tools to validate and/or develop analysis and reporting to provide insight.Develop plans to evaluate hypothesis/questions, measure performance, and/or produce models and data.Partner with business, IT and customers to ensure that the design, execution, presentation, and distribution of actionable insights or data streams can be readily implemented and meets management requirements.Lead medium to large sized projects and collaborate, train, and mentor other analysts as needed.Performs complex modeling, data mining and analysis projects that inform and support corporate stakeholders. Evaluate/model data utilizing accepted advanced statistical methods.Perform regular procedures such as preparing scheduled reports.Work with a diverse business community to document as-is and to-be business processes.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, management information systems, actuarial science, or equivalent experience required.5+ years of experience in financial services and/or research and analytics or 4+ years of experience in the actuarial field.Advanced skill in using reporting & analytics tools (such as PowerBI, SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, etc.) in a corporate environment.Advanced skill in design and execution of complex statistical modeling and testing involving linear and non-linear regression techniques (e.g. CHAID, CART, ANOVA, MANOVA, LOGISTIC, TTEST etc.).Advanced skill with relational databases, data warehousing, data mining and OLAP.Advanced skill in experimental design and impact assessment.Solid business acumen working with insurance or investment environments.Demonstrated ability to tailor key insights and messages appropriately for audience (senior leader, line manager, etc.).Ability to work at both a conceptual and detail level with strong statistical data analysis skills, problem solving and decision making skills.Able to translate strategic business logic into technical report requirements and schema design.Efficient and effective communications skills with key business partners, tailored to client needs and expectations.Effective in leading less experienced resources in large project work, providing assistance in consulting, design, implementation, and/or communication.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $92,538.00 - $125,199.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
