Senior Biologist
**MANTECH** seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented **Senior Biologist** with a focus on Terrestrial Biology to join our team. This position can be based in either **Solana Beach, CA** **or Silverdale, WA** . This is a full time **, on-site** position. In this role, the successful candidate will lead impactful projects for the Department of Defense (DoD), overseeing field biology, regulatory strategy, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, permitting strategy, and mitigation plans. **Responsibilities include but are not limited to:** + Lead the preparation of Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMPs), NEPA documentation, and regulatory materials for ESA Section 7 consultations and related permitting compliance + Lead field tasks, such as wildlife surveys, botanical surveys, special-status species surveys, nesting bird surveys, vegetation assessments, and jurisdictional waters delineations will be required on occasion. This field work may include strenuous conditions. The primary role in field work would be to supervise, train, and mentor junior staff with the goal of enabling them to perform the surveys independently once qualified + Design and manage biological resource surveys, supervising staff, and mentoring junior team members + Design scientifically robust biological field surveys and assessments that utilize efficient data collection systems that utilize mobile applications, GPS, and forms + Perform data analysis and performing scientifically defensible conclusions from field data, and preparing and reviewing technical reports, environmental assessments, mitigation plans, and biological assessments + Coordinate with clients, resource agencies, and environmental staff, and leading the development of permitting strategies, application packages, and agency negotiations + Ensure project progress, and preparation and submission of deliverables, occur on schedule while providing regular progress updates to clients. Identifying issues and effectively communicating those to project team, including clients, and developing effective resolutions + Contribute to business development by responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and pursuing new opportunities + Ability to travel up to 20% for surveys, site visits, and client meetings (CONUS and OCONUS) **Minimum Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology or related field with 10+ years of professional experience in terrestrial biological resource management + Experience managing INRMPs or NEPA related projects + Experience in data collection, environmental impact analysis, and report writing, including experience with environmental compliance and permitting for DoD projects + Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and scope management + Demonstrable expertise in regional flora, fauna, and vegetative communities in the western U.S. + Significant experience with botanical and wildlife surveys, species-specific protocol surveys, and designing and implementing mitigation and monitoring plans for biological resources + Proficiency in federal environmental regulations (NEPA, ESA, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Clean Water Act [CWA], etc.) + Experience in preparing regulatory permit documents and applications (e.g., Section 7 consultation documents, CWA Section 404/401) **Preferred Qualifications:** + Master’s Degree in Wildlife Biology or a related field is strongly desired + Authorization under a 10(a)1(A) Recovery Permit for work with one or more ESA-listed species that occur on DoD lands in the Western U.S. + Experience with GIS data collection and software + Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel + Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets) a plus **Clearance Requirements:** + Must be a U.S. Citizen and be willing and able to obtain a Secret security clearance **Physical Requirements:** + Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time. + Occasional movement within the office for communication and accessing resources. + Frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, including delivering presentations, leading meetings, and exchanging accurate information. + Ability to conduct site visits and fieldwork in various, sometimes strenuous and remote, environments related to biological resource surveys and assessments.
