Celestica Galway (Ireland) offers a thrilling opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in designing, implementing, and optimizing automated manufacturing systems for our high-volume production lines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation technologies, a proven track record of improving manufacturing efficiency, and the ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion.

Detailed Description Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for high-volume manufacturing processes. Execute the developed solutions within a regulated environment, ensuring proper change management processes are followed internally and with customers. Lead the planning, execution, and commissioning of automation projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets. Prepare and manage the capital package from concept through to project closure Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation system issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing production output. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and maintenance, to optimize manufacturing processes. Work closely with industry leading suppliers to Evaluate and recommend new automation technologies and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements for automated systems. Conduct performance analysis and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation system reliability. Ongoing development of tooling for a comprehensive set of complex machines and mechanical process steps within a manufacturing sector. Assessment of the capabilities of machines and process applications using Design of Experiments Understanding and providing feedback on customer’s technical requirements to team members and management. Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Project Management - Ability to manage/lead complex, multiple line engineering projects that may also involve other functions. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and people aspects of the project. Able to create a project/change management plan and ensure that the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget. Ability to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans Leadership - Demonstrate "People & Team Leadership Behaviours" as per Celestica Leadership Imperatives. Strong people leadership skills Physical Demands Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.  Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required. Typical Experience Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley), HMI development, and SCADA systems. Familiarity with software applications (C, C++, Python etc) and the suitability of or interaction between PC & PLC based solutions Experience with robotics, vision systems, and other automation technologies. Experience of machine safety and associated regulations from equipment design through documentation Understanding of technical mechanical drawings and experience of documentation of hardware and software designs suitable for implementation in a regulated industry Mechanical and/or electrical hands-on experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing and guiding technicians to repair a complex machine in a high-volume environment. Someone with an ability to initiate and lead change, collaborate and create alignment, drive accountability, think critically and make sound decisions Someone that has previous experience with customer Management and a knowledge of customer and regulatory requirements Someone that has previous experience of coaching and mentoring junior engineers. Typical Education Degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Automation with a 5+ years’ relevant experience Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
