Senior Analyst-Risk Management (Business Continuity Management)

How will you make an impact in this role?

Business Continuity Management (BCM) is essential in today’s environment. The ability to respond to a disruption such as a natural disaster, infrastructure failure, or pandemic underpins our commitment to deliver for our customers and protect our colleagues.

The BCM team is part of the Enterprise Shared Services Group at American Express.  This team works with colleagues across the Company to oversee and implement resilience, continuity, and response capabilities to safeguard employees, customers, and products and services.  The team coordinates planning and preparedness for potential service disruptions and other crises. The team also coordinates global or regional crisis responses, monitors developing issues while assessing organizational preparedness, and drives after-action crisis analyses and reporting for senior leaders.

This incumbent will work closely with business units to assess resilience capabilities, monitor compliance, and enhance the effectiveness of business continuity plans, risk mitigation strategies and corresponding exercises.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the design, implementation and maintenance of the quality assurance and consequence management framework for BCM program adherence. Provide guidance on BCM best practices, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation strategies to various stakeholders. Partner with Business Unit teams across the Company to identify and document key business functions; ensure each business function is risk assessed; and identify business function dependencies (e.g., 3rd parties, Technology, People, Location). Support the review of business impact analyses (BIAs), business continuity plans, risk mitigation strategies and corresponding exercises to ensure alignment with the bank’s resilience objectives. Provide oversight on program requirements and ensure appropriate execution by Business Unit teams.  Ensure BCM documentation and plans remain up to date and meet internal and external compliance standards (e.g., ISO 22301, FFIEC, etc.). Support regulator, Internal Audit, and 2nd Line Oversight reviews.  Support Capability Design and Development as and when required. 

Qualifications:

Experience and Background:

2+ years’ experience in Risk Management and/or Business Continuity. Experience of the Risk Oversight function is preferable. Strong understanding of American Express products, services, and organizational structure Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.   Ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details and identify gaps. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure. Analytical bent of mind – ability to look at data and draw meaningful insights. Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred. Advanced MS office skills – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint etc. 

Leadership Skills:

Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged. Ability to communicate key risks to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders. Structured thinking and clear communication.
