The opportunity

This position provides support to Financial Operations units including, but not limited to Investment Operations, Performance & Risk Analytics, and Compliance.

The successful candidate requires an in-depth background in Fixed Income Derivative processes, controls and a high level of knowledge on interest rate and credit derivative products.

This role supports the direct operation of the Capital Markets Operation unit. It also participates in the production support and change management of various processes in Markitwire, ICE, Findur and Simcorp Dimension. Other duties include investigating breaks, troubleshooting, ad hoc projects and other duties as required. From time to time this role could assume review responsibilities of other staff members work.

This individual will collaborate with members of Investment Technology and Investments as well as external clients, service providers, consultants and vendors in the delivery of business as usual and projects, to meet the Plan's changing requirements.

Critical duties must be carried out and completed same day.  This position carries a high degree of responsibility as the dollar value of transactions is significant and errors can result in large losses for the fund which may not be recoverable.

What you'll do

1. Carries out daily work within the Investment Finance “units”:

Determines critical priorities for the dayCompletes critical priorities for the dayIdentifies and analyses issues and problemsDetermines and carries out appropriate solutions for issues and problemsWorks with team members to ensure all critical priorities for the team are completed in the day

2. Verifies information and upholds controls

Checks and reconciles information to ensure accuracyApplies controls, checks and balancesFollows up on discrepancies and resolves discrepancies

3. Produces reports

Generates standard reportsAnalyses requests for non-standard reports and designs/delivers reports

4. Acts as a key resource on projects for the department under the guidance of the Financial Analyst

Plans project and identifies needs.Carries out project tasks.Liaises with IT Investments as needed on systems related projectsDocuments processes.

5. Identifies and carries out improvements for the unit

Actively identifies efficiency improvementsInvestigates and implements improvements

6. Assists the Financial Analyst in researching, identifying and documenting the characteristics and attributes of new products, programs or processes.

Identifies procedural/process changes and requirementsProvides recommendations for procedures and processesDevelops and implements tests plansDocuments processes

7. Services internal clients

Provides information and services to internal clientsResponds to inquiries and requests from internal clientsDeals with internal clients in a professional and timely manner

8. Deals with internal and external suppliers

Provides information and requests information as needed to established suppliers (eg. Custodian, Counter-parties, Systems providers, etc.)

9. Other

What you'll needRelevant university degree (such as Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science) or equivalent relevant experience with Investment Finance processesRequires an individual with in-depth experience in Investment Finance processes (2 years or more)Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend a solutionExcellent quantitative and computer skills (Excel and Access), including an understanding of database conceptsGood background skills and knowledge of accounting and reconciliation processesMust be able to work to deadlines, adapt to a rapidly changing environment and sustain high productivity levelsMust  be extremely detail oriented, organized and thoroughSelf starter, confident, innovative, team playerGood interpersonal and communication skillsMust be able to effectively deal with internal and external clients and suppliersAbility to work with minimum supervisionEnrollment in the CFA program an asset
