We are currently recruiting for a Senior Accounting & Control Specialist for our Finance Division in Amsterdam.

Overall Purpose of the Job
As a Senior Accounting & Control specialist, you will play an important role in the Headquarter of MBE Finance responsible on all accounting activities and processes to ensure delivery of accurate and concise financial reporting of high quality and support the accounting team with your extensive experience in the field. You will be the back-up of the Head of Accounting. MBE is an important subsidiary of MUFG financial group, and the position will cover the responsibilities of Financial Accounting of JGAAP (MUFG group reporting purpose) and IFRS (MBE local reporting purpose) across MBE offices in multiple EU countries. 

 
Function positioning 
Overall the team is responsible for the following: 

Accounting for Japanese GAAP and IFRS; 

(Financial) Controlling, incl. variance analysis; 

Reporting towards MUFG Group 

 
The Senior Accounting & Control specialist is expected to be well professionalized in accounting and lead and manage independently any challenge in accounting matters. This includes support/guide the medior and junior members (total team 8-9 FTE) within the team for their development. Furthermore, the Senior Accounting & Control specialist manages the regular closing and makes sure reporting is on time. In addition, the Accounting Specialist is contributing to effective procedures which are properly documented and has a mindset to contribute to change, limit manual efforts and further implement and make use of automated solutions. 

 
The position is crucial for the bank and supporting Head of Accounting and Head of Finance. The Accounting Department has a central place within MBE and MBE Finance. Hence the Senior Accounting & Control specialist also works actively together with other countries (mainly Germany, United Kingdom) and other departments (Operations, HR, Statutory, Management & Regulatory Reporting) on their processes and requirements for accurate, completely and timely closing. 

 

The function forms part of the Accounting Team in Finance Division, reports directly into the Head of Accounting and resides in the CFO domain under the Head of Finance. 

 

Your responsibilities 

Support the Head of Accounting and Accounting Team on a daily basis (incl. periodic team meetings) 

Motivate and coach colleagues to perform tasks, their development and engage in new activities (including sufficient back-up). 

Monthly, quarterly and yearly closing of JGAAP and IFRS 

Controlling activities pertaining to different areas, such as Front Office, Treasury, Projects/Intangible assets, HR, EU branches, etc.  

Lead and manage MUFG and/or MBE projects/initiatives from Finance Accounting 

Advise/deliver accounting solutions on new business or products, and implement the relevant process on accounting side 

Resolve ad-hoc accounting topics and questions 

Maintenance of General Ledger integrity and granularity (GL accounts) 

Contribute to maintenance and improvements the multi-GAAP Accounting Hub 

Pro-active initiation of improvement in processes, system set-up and control and challenge the team to improve as well 

Analysis, execution and documentation of (complex / ad-hoc) accounting questions 

Review of procedures performed by team members and approval thereof 

Group reporting (JGAAP/US GAAP) in collaboration with MUFG colleagues 

Monthly and quarterly explanation of developments in figures and report thereon in closing meetings 

Advise on required granularity of General Ledger and required granular data for appropriate accounting 

Involvement in data quality assessment and process of improving data quality 

Pro-actively advice finance senior management on required improvements in the Accounting (and related) domain 

Periodic update of process manuals, risks and controls 

Ensure SOX and internal control compliance for the area of responsibility (i.e. controls documentation) 

Manage and answer the requests/questions from Internal and External audit and where applicable other departments 

In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following: 

Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience, preferably with relevant post-master qualification (CPA, RA, RC) 

Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration or a similar field 

Skilled in analyzing (large) datasets and tools (such as PowerBI) thereto. 

Preferably work experience in team leading role or senior accountant role 

Preferably experience with (multi-)GAAP environment, usage of accounting hub/ERP system and/or group consolidation 

Most important is the willingness and proactiveness to develop and deliver accounting advice and support and guide the team with accounting skills and knowledge. 

Preferably skill and knowledge of data visualization techniques (such as PowerBI)  

Develop meaningful relationships across the MBE and MUFG Group to be able to properly report, leverage knowledge, realize economies of scale and improvements 

Uniform, effective and efficient processes harmonized accounting across MBE 

Knowledge of and insight into accounting requirements (mainly IFRS), data requirements, market standards of efficient and in-control processes. 

Knowledge and experience to apply IFRS standards (or similar) 

Maintains contact with external organizations/professionals for exchange of information, developments and the sharing of best practice. 

Verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
