Senior Accountant
Description For immediate consideration and to set up an interview Contact Lisa James at (859)788-3684 We are looking for a Senior Accountant to permanently join our client's team in Lexington, Kentucky. This role is essential in managing the organization’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and government funding regulations. The ideal candidate will excel in grant and fund accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls, contributing to the success of our diverse programs. Responsibilities: • Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring all transactions align with nonprofit accounting standards. • Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for both internal and external stakeholders. • Reconcile bank and investment accounts, ensuring the reliability of financial data. • Manage and report on restricted and unrestricted funding, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local grant requirements. • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure proper cost allocation and adherence to funding guidelines. • Collaborate with program managers to track budgets and evaluate financial performance of grants. • Support the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts, providing analysis and recommendations on variances. • Prepare schedules and documentation for annual financial and single audits, ensuring regulatory compliance. • Enhance and maintain internal controls and accounting processes to improve efficiency and mitigate risks. • Act as a financial liaison to program staff, offering guidance and support on accounting matters. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit environment. • Demonstrated expertise in fund accounting and managing government grants. • Comprehensive knowledge of Uniform Guidance and other grant regulations. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a strong attention to detail. • Experience working with fund accounting software. • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. • Familiarity with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge is a plus.
