After probationary period, position may be required to work M-F, 3:30 pm – 11:30 pm during the Fall/Spring semesters and M-F, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm during the summer. Position Summary Information Position Summary This semi-skilled laborer will perform manual work in the maintenance of residence halls. Work involves the use of a variety of maintenance equipment and tools, which frequently requires the application of skills acquired on the job. Minor repairs and maintenance tasks are performed with considerable independence and reviewed upon completion. More advanced maintenance or repair work is performed under the direction of a skilled trades worker or supervisor. Job Duties may include: + Maintaining the cleanliness of mechanical and electrical rooms and mechanical equipment + Performing minor carpentry tasks such as assembling beds, repairing furniture and window screens, hanging blinds, and replacing doors + Painting building walls, and ceilings, and repairs small holes in the drywall using drywall compound, putty knives, rollers and brushes + Makes minor electrical repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, replacing switches, and outlets + Clearing blocked drains and repairs faucets, toilets and drinking fountains. Tracking inventory items, including tools and equipment + Operating power and hand tools of the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other building trades in the performance of maintenance work + Changing filters in heat pumps and fan coil units Assisting skilled trades workers with more complex tasks in the maintenance of residence halls + Assisting skilled trades workers with maintenance and repairs, plumbing and HVAC systems + Driving vehicles to transport personnel, or materials + Maintain valid drivers license + Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications + One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction or + An equivalent combination of experience and training + Certain positions require possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
