PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION
1. Responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for visitors,
patients, and employees.
2. Monitors environment to detect potential hazards and reporting same while
providing assistance and services according to established procedures.

 

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge generally acquired through completion of a high school education.
2. Previous knowledge of security and/or law enforcement measures and
techniques at a level generally acquired during 6 to 12 months of on-the-job
training and orientation in such techniques or college curriculum in
Administration of Justice.


POST-EMPLOYMENT EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Must attend and be certified in CPI within the first 6 months of employment.
2. Must maintain certification in CPI by attending training at least once every 12
months.
3. Must achieve certification as a Basic Hospital Security Officer from the
International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (IAHSS) within the
first 12 months of employment.
4. Must maintain certification as a Basic Hospital Security Officer from the
International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (IAHSS) every three
years once certification is achieved.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct periodic tours of the facility and facility grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and injury/illnesses. Take corrective and/or
immediate action to prevent harm or injury to the public and/or employees
when appropriate.
2. Prepare written reports of incidents or unusual circumstances confronted
while on duty, including safety, health, environmental and fire hazards.
3. Follow up on reported accidents/incidents to determine the cause and ensure corrections area implemented.
4. Enforce rules and regulations on the property as they are related to Security
policies.
5. Maintain public relations with other employees, patients, vendors, and
visitors.
6. Projects a positive attitude of service to the facility, employees, vendors,
visitors, and patients.
7. Monitor installed access, intrusion, and fire alarm system(s), and respond
appropriately.
8. Monitor security cameras, identify suspicious activity, and dispatch/direct
emergency response to correct the situation.
9. Proficiently operates security camera system and be familiar with location of cameras.
10. Provide foot patrol coverage of the exterior grounds of the facility.
1 1. Conduct building checks, set alarms, secure open facilities, and
respond to activated alarms to include Fire Panel.
12. Respond to all fire and drills with the facility for assistance.
13. Provide assistance to staff, patients, and visitors as deemed appropriate.
a. Picks up, secures, and returns patient valuables.
b. Unlock and lock doors.
c. Provide directions and general assistance.
14. Keep fire lanes clear of abandoned vehicles.
15. Demonstrates ability to access various areas of the facility and grounds to
make rounds and respond quickly to emergency situations.
16. Demonstrates ability to exert a high level of physical effort in order to restrain and hold violent/combative persons.
17. Requires visual acuity and proficient hearing in order to react and respond
quickly and appropriately to loud pages, beepers, and a variety of emergency
situations.
18. Analyzes potential problems or hazardous situations and responds
appropriately in emergency situations such as fires, criminal acts, and the
like. Selects the most appropriate course of action in a short response time.
19. Explains Hospital policies and procedures in difficult situations to both public and employees, as well as enforces such policies and procedures.
20. Conducts security & safety- related checks &/or drills in accordance with
regulatory standards.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. May occasionally be exposed to hazards and hazardous situations, but
potential for personal harm or injury is limited when proper safety and health
precautions are followed.
2. Routinely works in normal office conditions where there are few physical
discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, and the like. Works outside on foot.
3. Potential for working in moderately unpleasant conditions for brief periods of time, such as rain, snow, cold, wind, and heat.
4. Individuals in this position may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
5. Individuals in this position are required to exercise standard precautions, use
protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection
control.
6. Individuals in this position work weekends and holidays as required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/HAZARDS
Officers must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
