Contractors are not entitled to pay while travelling. 

Visa Requirements

The Company shall be responsible and liable for the multi-entry visa cost as required to deliver the Services. Any visa costs incurred by the Contractor shall be reimbursed.

Package

GardaWorld will provide the Independent Contractor with appropriate accommodation, insurance, flights, and life support while on duty.

 

Food, Accommodation and General Expenses:

The company will provide the Contractor with food, drink, transportation, and accommodation as necessary whilst the Contractor is engaged in a project.

 

If Company is unable to provide the Contractor with food, accommodation, and transportation, except as set forth below for inbound and outbound travel to the project location, Company shall either provide a per diem at an agreed rate or reimburse to the Contractor for any travelling, hotel and other expenses reasonably incurred by him in the proper performance of his duties under this Agreement. In the case of the latter, the Contractor must provide Company with such vouchers and receipts or other evidence of actual payment of such expenses as Company may reasonably require. The Contractor shall seek the prior approval by Company for any individual expenses incurred under this Agreement.

Flight Package

GardaWorld will provide an economy class return ticket per rotation to the project location from a hub airport as close as reasonably practicable to the Contractor’s declared home address. 

 

The Contractor will be asked to declare their preferences for a primary, secondary, and tertiary hub airport from the GardaWorld hub list at the commencement of their engagement. Where possible and commercially acceptable, GardaWorld will look to book travel to and from one of the preferred hubs.

 

The Contractor will be responsible for any travel arrangements between the hub airport and their home address.  The Company will pay for any transfers from the airport near the project location or any other intermediate landing location to the Consultant’s accommodation at the project.

 

Further information can be found in the GardaWorld Contractor Travel Standard Operating Instruction (SOI), a copy will be provided upon acceptance.

Role Requirements

Skills & Competencies:

Strong analytical and observational skills with attention to detail. Good interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with diverse stakeholders. Ability to assess complex environments and provide actionable security advice. Fluent in English; proficiency in Arabic is highly beneficial. Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic data analysis tools. Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary security team. Calm under pressure and capable of adapting to a dynamic security environment.

 

Essential Requirements:

Background in security, intelligence, risk management, or military/police operations preferred. 3–5 years of experience in security risk assessment, threat analysis, or related fields. Familiarity with the geopolitical, cultural, and security context of Iraq or similar high-risk environments. Training in risk management, hostile environment awareness (HEAT), or security intelligence gathering is advantageous. Current and valid UK C or C1 Driver's license (for B6 vehicles) or equivalent Satisfactory completion of a criminal record check within the recent 6 months.

 

Desirable:

Experience working with international military, NGO, or diplomatic security teams. Knowledge of local languages and tribal/community dynamics. Understanding of international security standards such as ISO 31000 (Risk Management) or ISO 18788. Previous experience in crisis management, incident command, or security operations planning.

Services

Services provided by the contractor shall include, but not be limited to, the continuous monitoring, analysis, and reporting of local risk factors, atmospherics, and threat indicators affecting Balad, Iraq. The Security Officer – Risk Management & Atmospherics plays a critical role in maintaining situational awareness, supporting proactive risk mitigation, and informing security decision-making through intelligence gathering and stakeholder engagement. Services the contractor can expect to carry out, but are not limited to, are as follows:

 

Monitor the operational security environment on an ongoing basis, including political, social, cultural, and economic atmospherics that may influence base safety and security. Collect and assess security intelligence from internal reports, local sources, open-source platforms, and field-based observations. Identify and evaluate threats, vulnerabilities, and early indicators of risk; escalate findings to the Risk Manager and Security Management in a timely and accurate manner. Assist in drafting and maintaining risk assessments, contingency plans, and tailored mitigation strategies to address evolving threats. Conduct security awareness briefings and informal threat updates to ensure personnel are informed of relevant developments and required precautions. Track local events, unrest, demonstrations, or community activities that could pose a direct or indirect threat to operations or personnel. Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and other external stakeholders to enhance information-sharing and promote situational awareness. Participate in security drills, crisis simulations, and emergency response planning exercises. Maintain a database of risk-related incidents, environmental changes, and security alerts to support trend analysis and strategic planning. Support post-incident investigations by providing environmental context, local insights, and trend analysis related to the event. Uphold strict adherence to confidentiality protocols, operational guidelines, and organizational policies related to security intelligence and reporting.

 

This position contributes significantly to the intelligence-led approach to security at Balad, Iraq, helping to prevent incidents through early detection, informed planning, and collaborative engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
