Position Summary

The Security Officer is responsible for making periodic checks of the property to ensure the safety and security of all persons and property around the facility. The Security Officer performs functions in compliance with department, facility, and regulatory agency safety policies and procedures.


Position Specific Responsibilities

Adheres to established facility and departmental policies, procedures, and practices to ensure the maintenance of high standards in quality, efficiency, and safety.Demonstrates fairness, reasonableness, consideration, and honesty in all interactions with individuals associated with the facility, including employees, visitors, and patients. Always upholds the dignity and rights of others.Conducts thorough building checks both inside and outside the facility, providing a visible security presence. Ensures the implementation of proper locking and unlocking procedures during routine inspections, contributing to the overall safety and security of the facility.Responds promptly to calls for assistance, safeguarding staff and other individuals from potential harm during conflicts or confrontations. Exercises sound judgment and quick thinking to take control of dangerous situations. Restrains patients when necessary for the protection of themselves or others.Regularly patrols parking areas, remaining vigilant for criminal activities or urgent needs for assistance. Provides escort to parking areas.Conducts regular checks of construction or renovation areas, particularly those equipped with operable fire detection systems.Conducts preliminary investigations into facility-related incidents and collaborates with local law enforcement agencies when their assistance is required.Maintains accurate records of daily activities through detailed shift reports. Creates incident reports to document criminal activity, vehicular accidents, missing property, suspicious persons, or other unusual activity on facility property.Ensures the orderly movement of vehicles around the facility by keeping exits and fire lanes clear for emergency vehicles. Monitors designated parking areas to prevent violations and ensure adequate parking for assigned personnel.Assists patients, visitors, and staff as needed, providing support in various facility areas. Undertakes additional tasks as requested, based on available time and staffing levels.Communicates relevant information clearly, concisely, and accurately. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships. Always upholds the confidentiality of sensitive information to safeguard individual privacy.Provides services to individuals across all age groups, demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age-specific needs of patients on the assigned unit.Stays informed about the principles of growth and development over the life span by participating in relevant continuing education programs.Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED required.Certificate of 120 hours of training or complete comparable law enforcement education; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Crisis intervention training is required and will be offered, once the officer is hired, if necessary.Previous security experience desired


Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

Valid driver's license with no serious traffic violations in the past 3 years. (Serious as defined by the hospital insurance provider)

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. In a healthcare setting, exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to the field is expected. Routine use of standard medical equipment and tools associated with clinical care is essential.
