As a member of the Critical Asset Protection & Investigations team, specifically within the Cyber Security & Investigations division, this role focuses on enhancing data security measures. The main responsibility involves applying sophisticated security concepts to develop use-cases that improve monitoring and alerting systems, thereby strengthening data loss prevention and patient data protection initiatives.

The Security Analyst plays a critical role within the Thermo Fisher Scientific Cyber Forensic Laboratory, entrusted with monitoring, triaging, and preventing internal threats to safeguard critical company data and intellectual property. Using a variety of security solutions, the Security Analyst I will support key projects focused on data loss prevention and mitigating insider threats. This role involves close collaboration with Digital Forensics Examiners to triage alerts, analyze log data, and assist with investigations, while also driving process improvements and advancing the maturity of the Critical Asset Protection & Investigation program. The Security Analyst I will benefit from a structured mentorship process, providing opportunities for learning and growth under the guidance of an experienced Analyst.

A day in the Life:

Monitor and triage internal threat activities using a variety of tools, technologies, and solutions.Consolidate critical findings, create detailed reports, and prepare presentations to review findings with key stakeholders.Develop use-cases to enhance detection and alerting capabilities.Respond to critical alerts and escalate issues to forensic examiners as necessary.Assist in creating metrics and key performance indicators.Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), playbooks, and user documentation.Provide recommendations for process improvements to streamline incident handling, detection, and response procedures.Collaborate with other security and IT teams to maintain and enhance the team’s security solutions and tools.Support Digital Forensics Examiners as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Cyber Security or related field – equivalent work experience acceptableCyber Security or Digital Forensic certifications a plus

Experience

1-2 years of IT, Cyber Security, or related experienceExperience with SIEM, EDR, IRM, SOAR and or UEBA solutions a plusExperience as Tier 1 or Tier 2 support a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Highly inquisitive self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Capable of making informed analytic judgments and thoroughly documenting findings in written reports and presentations.Strong investigative approach with excellent analytic and creative problem-solving skills.Effective communicator, able to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences including partners, management, and IT team members.Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.Ability to identify trends and patterns in data to make sound decisions and draw accurate conclusions.Familiarity with basic functionality of Windows and Mac operating systems.Proficient in the core MS Office suite.Ability to normalize, organize, correlate, and analyze log data using tools such as Excel, PowerBI, Splunk, Tableau, etc. is a plus.Solid understanding of cyber security and insider threats is preferred.Experience in Digital Forensics is a plus.Experience with Splunk is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $72,600.00–$96,800.00.
