Wärtsilä is a world leader in marine technology and leading the industry's transformation towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. With the world’s widest portfolio and service network, we – Wärtsilians - deliver efficient, safe and sustainable integrated products and solutions to enhance the business of our customers. You will coach your team to expand their capabilities and facilitate their self-management.  Together with other Scrum Masters, you will work alongside our Area Product Owner who sets the product vision and priority.  You will also work with broader organization like People Managers and various stakeholders to remove systemic impediments, implement LeSS principles and foster modern product development practices.

You will also play a crucial role in:

Exposing and addressing organizational impediments that hinder agility Support people management, and stakeholders during their evolution in a LeSS organization Creating an environment where teams are empowered, they maintain the whole product focus, and are continuously learning Collaborating closely with other Scrum Masters to ensure coherence in ways of working, coaching and organizational development

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

Coach multiple teams toward increasing self-management, transparency, and improvement of technical practices Teach and show how to apply LeSS principles and systems thinking across all levels of the organization Help teams and other stakeholders learn how to identify and resolve organizational dysfunctions that prevent progress towards product organization goals Actively work with managers and leaders to support the LeSS adoption and evolve organizational structures and mindsets Facilitate Scrum events only when needed with the goal of having teams and other stakeholders learn how to effectively execute and facilitate independently Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, not just process compliance

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

Proven experience as a Scrum Master in a multi-team or large product development environment Strong background in coaching at the organizational level, not just team facilitation Deep understanding of the Scrum Guide and the LeSS Principles Ability and interest in challenging the status quo, facilitate change, and foster systemic improvement Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills Excellent facilitation skills Relevant Scrum Master education and certifications (e.g. PSM II/III, LeSS Practitioner or Coach certification) Ability to work co-located in Helsinki minimum 2-3 days a week Hands-on experience in teaching software development practices (e.g. pair programming, test driven development, refactoring) is a strong plus Proficiency in English, Finnish is a plus

Who are we and what we do?

Digital Product Development (DPD) develops digital products for Wärtsilä’s Marine and Energy business units. One of our well-known products is Wärtsilä Expert Insight, which uses real-time vessel engine data to detect and predict maintenance needs. To collect and process operational data, DPD develops Edge solutions by using common technology stack in development work.

Currently, DPD consists of 120+ product developers organized into 11 teams. We have several scrum masters who support these teams, and one PO who sets the vision and direction in which the teams develop our products. As a department, we are very flat and promote actively non-hierarchical, agile ways of working. We have an amazing team and we are excited about our work and the impact it has building sustainable societies. We are looking to find a colleague with this shared passion for smart technologies and a sustainable future.

Why you and us?

We at Wärtsilä believe in empowerment, ownership and taking responsibility of our work. We support each other’s growth, and co-creation is the true basis of our innovation. We have courage to see opportunities and take initiative.

We are authentic and honest, and we strongly believe in that by being your own true self you can accomplish so much more. We don’t always get it right the first time, and if mistakes are made, we make sure to learn and grow from them. We want everyone to voice their opinions freely. That is why we have built an environment that empowers you and everyone around you, and where you can feel safe and cared for. Are you eager to be part of this ambition?
