If you are passionate about driving innovation and making a real impact, RSSL is the place for you! **Purpose :** The role as Scientist II will be responsible for performing and leading technical projects from within the Material Sciences team, with a focus on rheology, alongside other physical characterisation techniques. This role will take specific responsibility required to both execute, method develop, and project manage analytical projects. Your work would include large, complex projects that may be multi-department, cross functional and multi-country in nature. To succeed in this role, you will use strong teamwork skills to collaborate with others to perform analyses and report work in accordance with analytical standards, ensuring effective organisation of your assigned workload. Knowledge of Rheology of materials, sample preparation and chemistry is required. The successful individual would perform a range of routine and investigative analysis. As an innovative and self-motivated scientist, you will have the opportunity to directly influence projects and interact with customers in cross-functional project meetings. You will also be expected to present project findings to clients and senior stakeholders and have excellent technical report writing skills. You may be expected to review technical work and will be expected to provide training to less experienced team members. Good organisation and communication skills are required, to work with external clients and internal stakeholders against a range of product types. **Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities** Technical + Always provide high quality customer service by ensuring effective organisation of work programs, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of reports with analytical findings/results. + Perform a range of routine and investigative analysis using various techniques independently. Techniques include Rheology experience. The ability to develop rheology methods and interpret rheology results is essential. Experience in texture analysis would be advantageous but is not a requirement. + Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment. + Perform data checking and provide interpretation of results for R&D projects. + Generate certificate of analyses or external interpretive reports. + Presentation of results in both internal and external forums. + Proficient in the use of generic and specific software packages require for the role: For example, Laboratory’s LIMS system, Q-Pulse. + Provide training and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods. + Take responsibility for elements of specific projects and/or specific areas of general laboratory/sample administration and assigned housekeeping tasks as required. + Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required. **Communication & Influence** + Work as part of an efficient analytical team + To liaise with clients, stakeholders, business development and line management to ensure effective communication during the project lifecycle. + Help RSSL in marketing and promotion of our rheology capabilities, to continue to grow our business and support market growth. + Participate in client and stakeholder meetings as required + Deliver presentations to technical stakeholders and clients as required + Manage R&D projects or defined areas of larger cross functional R&D projects **Quality Health and Safety** + Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed. + To complete, review and approve assigned quality actions on a timely manner. + Assist with the documentation of SOPs for equipment / tests and generation of necessary risk assessments and COSHH + To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment. + Ensure training records are up-to-date and accurate. **Experience required:** + Educated to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent, with minimum 3 years relevant experience in industry or within a laboratory. + Proven theoretical and hands on experience within physical properties laboratories using rheological techniques. **Travel requirements:** Travel may be required to support manufacturing sites on an adhoc basis **More about this role** In return for your commitment, drive and enthusiasm, we offer an attractive benefits package within a highly successful international business that offers financial rewards and resources, including: + Opportunities to learn and develop + Performance Related Bonus scheme + Contributory pension (between 8% to 11% employer contribution) + Life assurance + 27 days holiday allowance (possibility to buy 5 extra days) + bank holidays + Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) + A flexible benefits programme (Gym discounts, private health insurance, restaurant discounts, etc).
