The Therapeutic Modalities (TMo) function is part of the Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organization. TMo discovers and optimizes innovative drug candidates, including small molecules, biologics and nucleic acid-based therapeutics in order to deliver novel therapeutic approaches across all pRED Discovery and Translational areas (DTAs).
The DELT team lies within the Lead Discovery (LD) Department in Small Molecule Research, which is part of Therapeutic Modalities (TMo) within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED). We deliver leading-edge science to drive the success of Roche’s early pipeline discovery research activities through a strong expertise in high-throughput or focused screening platforms, DNA-encoded library technology (DELT), protein science & enzymology/biophysics, cell-based assays and biostructure determination. We are accountable for the provision of high-quality chemistry starting points for small-molecule projects and generating molecular and mechanistic insights that are critical for the advancement of discovery projects.
We are offering a position as a Selection Scientist within the DNA-encoded library technology (DELT) team at the Roche Innovation Center Basel, Switzerland. You will be responsible for leading and executing selections as part of the global DELT platform at Roche, collaborating with project groups from all Roche R&D centers, and pushing the frontier of selection methodology to enable DELT screening regardless of the target class, and collaborating closely with a multitude of disciplines across small molecule research. You will also be expected to lead developments in automation and new selection techniques, integrate new modalities, and bring expertise to the future direction of DELT at Roche. You will have an active involvement in our multidisciplinary team, which covers all aspects of DELT — from library design and synthesis through screening to hit follow-up.
Your impact:
You lead and execute DNA-encoded library campaigns to identify key drug discovery starting points, including planning and running experiments, data analysis, hit selection and follow-up.
You strategically plan and collaborate with project teams to identify novel binders for diverse targets.
You proactively partner with Roche R&D teams and external partners to advance and integrate cutting-edge methodologies and explore new modes of action.
You actively collaborate with project teams to guide decision-making and drive projects forward.
You utilize automated techniques for selection processes.
You apply computational and machine learning approaches to analyze and interpret results.
You engage closely with Roche’s small molecule research discovery engines.
You maintain accurate research documentation using electronic laboratory notebooks.
You design experiments and present findings to diverse audiences.
You ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Who you areYou are highly passionate about DNA-encoded library technology, pushing the boundaries of the field, as well as discovering and taking on new challenges.
We are looking for a highly motivated lab-based selection scientist with a strong enthusiasm for chemical biology and pushing the technology to the next step, who is interested in performing state-of-the-art research in the pharmaceutical industry.
You have a Ph.D. or a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a similar field. If you have a Master’s degree, you have at least 4 years of relevant experience.
You have proven experience in interdisciplinary project work, method development, and assay development, with a strong interest in DNA-encoded library technology (DELT) and lead discovery.
You have a good understanding of the lead and drug discovery process and your role in that process.
You possess excellent communication skills and are able to consistently present data and scientific information clearly to project teams. Fluency in English is expected.
You are self-driven and focused, with strong multitasking abilities to efficiently meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
