Job Title: Science Literacy Instructor (High School Saturday Program) PVN ID: BA-2508-006967 Category: Instruction and Social Service Location: BARUCH COLLEGE Job Description General Description The STEP Academy (https://step.baruch.cuny.edu) at Baruch College (a STEM academic enrichment and college preparation program) has several open instructor positions for the fall semester. Please note: These courses are non-credit, introductory and culminating workshop series. Participants do not receive an official grade. The Fall 2025 Program runs for 10 Saturdays: October 4 through December 13, excluding November 29. Science regents will now test students’ ability to incorporate claim evidence reasoning, reading comprehension, and analysis of diagrams and models to aid in explaining their answers. Students will improve their understanding of science concepts, the scientific process, and how science relates to society. Topics will cover understanding scientific evidence, evaluating claims, and applying scientific knowledge to real-world situations- all important skills in preparation to be college ready for science level courses. Additional Information: This course is designed for high school students interested in improving their science comprehension for test preparation and college readiness for science courses. Salary: $1,125 = [$45 an hour x 2.5 hours (1.5 hours of instruction + 1 hour of preparation) x 10 sessions] Other Duties + Prepare and teach curriculum for 20-22 students + Evaluate student and group performance + Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments + Monitor and maintain accurate student attendance records + Reassess curriculum based on students' needs, interests, and understanding of materials + Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: + Availability for each program day from 10:35am-12pm + Degree in science, science education, or related subject + Experience in a teaching capacity in subject area + Experience with designing/implementing a course curriculum + Have a strong classroom management style Preferred: + Strong background in the subject area + Prior teaching experience with high school or undergraduate students + Ability to engage students with creative lessons and innovative teaching style + Possess good interpersonal skills with adolescents and a strong understanding of their maturity levels + Enthusiasm for the subject with flexibility in adjusting curriculum to reflect students' abilities Only candidates who submit a cover letter will be considered.
