The London-based Banking and Corporate Finance (BCF) team is the front office relationship management team covering UK headquartered clients and UK subsidiaries of multinational corporates. The BCF Team is a high performing, integrated team where you will gain experience by performing a wide range of tasks, and gain to different client sectors and countries; giving you continuous learning and development opportunities. The business has grown significantly in recent years, and the new Associate will complement the existing team. The BCF Team’s main objective is to manage and support the bank’s SCIB client base in connection with all Santander global banking products. The team is complemented by local relationship teams in all of Santander’s international locations.
The role introduction
The role sits within the Banking & Corporate Finance Coverage team within Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (SCIB) in the UK. The Banking and Corporate Finance team is a high performing and established team, in which managing clients and internal stakeholders to deliver against an agreed budget is the key responsibility. This role allows the opportunity to cover clients in various sectors and jurisdictions, providing continuous learning and development opportunities.
The role supports clients covered within the Energy, Infrastructure & Industrials team, including managing global business in our local coverage across the UK, Europe, US, Latin America, and Asia. As an Associate in the BCF team, you will be responsible for supporting the development of client relationships through assisting the banker in all aspects of their job including preparing Business Plans & credit committee papers, arranging meetings with clients, preparing client materials & business opportunities analysis, as well as internal analyses of clients and income earned against budget. You will also help the BCF Team with internal tasks as and when requested.
Key activities
Associates will support the bankers in covering their clients, and will need an understanding of all Santander Corporate and Investment Banking products, with a strong focus on Transactional Banking, including Cash & Liquidity Management, Trade & Working Capital Solutions and FX.Associates in the BCF Team will play a pivotal role in supporting the execution of client assignments, ensuring deliverables are made with high quality standards and strong attention to detail. As the volume of new business in the team is high, this role requires proactivity and a solid understanding of the product suite, as well as strong collaborative skills and ability to take ownership of tasks. Associates in the BCF Team will be expected to help generate business ideas to drive revenue, returns on capital, and growth. Associates will be required to work closely with product partners to deliver local and regional based solutions. They will be expected to help identify, develop, and execute new business initiatives in order to increase client penetration.Associates will support the bankers in delivering the agreed budgeted growth of the portfolio, working with Product Groups and Countries, and on-going Pipeline updates.The role will include producing client facing documents and pitch books, working on deals in conjunction with senior stakeholders across the full suite of SCIB products. The role will also necessitate face to face interaction with clients, including developing a thorough understanding of clients and their individual needs.Credit Lines: preparation of business plans in conjunction with credit proposalsMonitor credit risk and capital consumption of clientsMonitor any other risks and report through the appropriate channels with particular focus on operational and conduct riskGuide Client Management Services (CMS) teams and involve them early to ensure completion of all KYC forms (including CIF, EMIR, MiFID, etc) in a timely manner for onboarding and refresh purposes.What we’re looking for
A Degree (or equivalent), preferably in a numerical discipline such as economics or finance, is preferred but we will consider talented individuals with relevant experience or skills for roles.Strong analytical, numerical, modelling skills are essential and required.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity.Ability to comfortably interact with people in a professional and mature manner.High levels of attention to detail, diligence and conscientiousness, ensuring quality of client deliverables.Self-motivated, tenacious and able to work with high degree of independence.Excellent technology skills with superior Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, and ability to quickly learn new software applications.Creativity, problem solving skills, flexibility in approach and the ability to work with members of multiple product groups at the same time. Ability to analyse complex client financial objectives.Broad experience of the main product areas of SCIB, namely; Corporate Finance, GTB, FS&A, RSG and DCM is preferred.Strong organizational skills are requiredAbility to comfortably interact and present to internal meetings including committees in a professional and mature manner.Fluency in English is essential. Spanish / Portuguese / Others is a plus.Ability to develop logical and well-reasoned argument to influence and motivate others.What else you need to know
