This position provides technical assistance, training and planning for schools and school resource officers (SRO) to support the development, enhancement and implementation of school safety programs and initiatives. This position advances the School Safety Center by providing all-hazard technical expertise, leadership, and coordination to school district officials, law enforcement agencies, and state and local emergency management. This position will support the current school safety best practices and aligns with federal and state requirements for school safety preparedness. This position develops, enhances, maintains and coordinates state and local school safety initiatives by providing planning direction and interagency coordination. This work is accomplished through the development of guidance and training materials, establishment of priorities and delivery of presentations to school district officials, law enforcement agencies, and local emergency management. **Minimum Qualifications** The School Safety Specialist must have at least three (3)* years of demonstrated experience and working knowledge in the following areas: + Experience working in any of the following areas: education, child development, behavioral science or criminal justice or closely related fields. + Providing training to adult learners and public presentations; leading work groups and working with diverse teams; developing programs/projects to include implementation, management, and analysis. + Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking to a wide variety of stakeholders and community partners. + Demonstrated ability to work independently with conceptual guidance. + Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from underserved communities and diverse backgrounds. *An associates degree may substitute for six months of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for twelve (12) months of experience. **Preferred Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management or closely related field. + State or Federal Emergency Management Certificate. + Experience with juvenile justice or education system. + Current or past MN POST licensure. + Current or past professional licensure. + Experience in program evaluation. **Physical Requirements** Light: Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and moving and transporting light objects frequently.
