Overview
The College of Engineering ( COE ) at Oregon State University, Oregon’s premier research university, seeks an energetic, entrepreneurial, and public-spirited leader as Head for theSchool of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (https://engineering.oregonstate.edu/EECS) ( EECS ). The School Head will collaborate closely with the Dean and the College leadership team to identify, develop, and expand academic and research programs, aligning with the College’s and the University’s ambitious goals outlined in the strategic plan,Prosperity Widely Shared. The School of EECS conducts discovery- and solutions-driven research addressing the world’s most complex technological challenges in areas such as analog and mixed-signal electronics, artificial intelligence, end-user software, wireless and computing technologies, renewable energy, robotics, and transparent electronics. With the upcoming inauguration of the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex and one of the fastest supercomputers, the position offers an exciting opportunity for leadership at the forefront of engineering education and research.
The School Head will provide organizational and administrative expertise to lead large-scale on-campus and online academic programs, including interdisciplinary programs in AI and Robotics, in the School of EECS . The Head serves alongside the other four School Heads on the College of Engineering ( COE ) leadership team and plays a key role in aligning their respective school with the College’s mission to achieve greater success.

Key Responsibilities
OPPORTUNITY AND EXPECTATIONS
25% Strategic Leadership of the School & Collaboration with College and University Leaders
+ Collaborate with the Dean and College of Engineering leadership team to execute on and achieve the College’s goals.
+ Develop, manage, and implement strategies that leverage the strengths of the School’s faculty, staff, partners, and students and are aligned with the College’s and OSU’s strategic plan and target metrics.
+ Lead the development and execution of strategies to attract significant external research income and research partnerships with industry and government agencies.
+ Cultivate and develop new industry partnerships while deepening existing ones.
+ Provide academic leadership of on-campus and online academic programs including interdisciplinary programs.
+ Enhance academic excellence and support growth of academic programs.
+ Maintain a distinguished public profile through professional service at the national and/or international level including active contribution to academic societies and/or industry associations.
+ Create opportunities for the School to contribute to economic development and solve important societal problems
+ Cultivate a climate and work environment that is open and welcoming to all persons.
25% Management of School Operations
+ Manage financial resources and allocation processes against budget.
+ Ensure the provision of an outstanding student education experiences that support target retention and graduation rates and positive career outcomes.
+ Oversee operations and safety of physical resources, including laboratories and physical assets needed to deliver programs.
+ Ensure compliance of School’s operations with relevant collective bargaining agreements.
+ Maintain compliance with accreditation requirements.
20% Supervisory
+ Supervise and conduct annual performance reviews of faculty and staff.
+ Foster trust, respect, and respectful working relationships with faculty, staff, students, administrators, industry partners, and the community.
+ Build a leadership team and its capabilities to achieve the goals of the School and position.
10% Teaching and Research
+ Lead, promote, and contribute to sustained high-quality research productivity quality in terms of quantity of research outputs including grants, publications and citations, and their impact and level of graduate research education.
+ Could teach but is not required
10% Fund Development
+ Create compelling cases for philanthropy from individuals and industry.
+ Partner with OSU Foundation development staff to secure resources.
+ Cultivate and steward donors, both existing and prospective.
10% Other responsibilities as requested by the Dean.
What You Will Need
Qualifications and Characteristics
+ An earned doctorate in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field.
+ Demonstrated successful managerial, financial, supervisory, and operational experience of academic and/or research programs.
+ A distinguished record in research, teaching, and service consistent with the expectations of the rank of full professor and tenure in the COE .
+ History of supporting and inspiring the work and interests of employees and colleagues including promoting professional development (e.g., recruitment, mentorship, retention, promotion and/or research).
+ Experience contributing to the administration or operation of diverse types of graduate programs such as interdisciplinary, bridge, international, and 4+1 programs.
+ Experience with supporting student success in timely graduation and career development.
+ Demonstrated competence in and dedication to recruitment, retention and success of employees, colleagues, and students from diverse backgrounds.
+ Demonstration of strong outreach skills with a variety of interested parties that may include industry partners, legislators, donors, prospective and/or current students, parents, and alumni.
+ Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships internally and externally and promote mutually beneficial collaborations.
+ Understanding of current and emerging issues in computer science and electrical and computer engineering research and education or closely related fields.
+ Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

+ A demonstrable record of leadership in an academic environment of comparable scale and complexity.
+ Successful professional experience in academic administration at the level of chair or higher, or comparable experience.
+ Experience with building and sustaining on-line educational programs.
+ Demonstrated leadership and success in securing internal and external support to support programs.
+ Demonstrated success in high quality and innovative research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, faculty governance, student success, interdisciplinary programs, outreach, and extended education.
+ Experience with maintaining the visibility of a program, unit, or organization including awareness of tactics for advocacy in state and national funding opportunities.
+ Experience leading and managing a diverse portfolio of graduate programs.
+ Experience with the commercialization of research.
+ Demonstrated success in setting priorities for, working with, and inspiring others to high levels of creative performance.
+ History of and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration that enhances unit and institutional priorities.
+ Awareness of the mission of a land, sea, space, and sun grant university.
